Intro: I teach 6th grade.

So we're reading this book aloud called Walk Two Moons. Normally I always read ahead in advance so I can plan out ideas to spark discussion, but I didn't have time so I was reading right along with the kids (p.s. I've never read the book before so it's brand new to all of us.) I'm reading out loud about the girl having a flashback of her mom giving birth to a stillborn baby. It was just so sad and I started bawling. I could barely read, tears hitting the book and my voice all shaky and broken.

I always try to be strong for my students. As a teacher, no matter how you're feeling you always have to try to suck it up and put on a smile for the kids. But I just completely lost it!! The good thing is I was immediately reminded how awesome my kids are. They got me tissues and consoled me and when we were done reading and discussing we had a big group hug to cheer me up. What amazing students I have!
I'm a teacher and I thank God for it every day.

Ohhh Ash!!!

You must have awesome kids in your class...most kids these days are such punks!...I"m so sorry that you had to experience that in front of them, but I think it will help them know you a little better...its always neat to get to know the "real" side of people in an authority position (I'm in the military so to be reminded that people in charge are still people is always a breath of fresh air)...

I could barely watch Discovery Health today because Babies: Special Delivery came on and it was so sad...blah...

Stay strong...you will get that baby in your arms!!

Ashley what great students you have. There is no way that I would have been able to make it through that story w/o sobbing like a child! It's nice to know that your students care about you so much.

Awe, your kids sound so caring. I think it is good that you sometimes get emotional so children can see that their teacher and adults in general are people and have feelings too.

Thanks girls. Yeah, my kids and I have such a great relationship. I tell their parents at the beginning of the year that since I don't have kids of my own yet, they have to share theirs with me for the year!
I'll admit there are days when I don't love my job, but then days like this happen and I realize that I am exactly where I want to be.

your kids sound very sweet. i can't even read some picture books to my son w/o getting choked up when there is something in the story very emotional, and not even about babies! it took you by surprise, and i'm sure they just thought you cried cuz it was an emotional scene.

Awww... that is sooo cute...Really you brought tears to my eyes, I can kinda relate. I was doing a speach in freshman year of college and I started reading a poem as an introductory to my speach, I lost it, I started crying I couldnt even finish the poem. Everyone deserves to let the true side of them come out once and a while. I say good job teacher, you taught your "children" that emotions could be a positive thing! Thumbs up to you!!!
