Mayhaws are some sort of fruit. I buy them here in Livingston, TX. They grow them in different places. The fruit isn't good to eat, but it makes wonderful jelly. Here's the website on Mayhaws http://www.mayhaw.org/ I also go to our deer lease in July and pick the Mustang grapes to make grape jelly. What kind of jalepeno jelly do you make? I haven't tried that one!

im definately going to have to find some. thanks for the info! hopefully this year i get to grow the japs. but i usually seed them and cut them up really tiny...you dont have to use that many (5) and ill add a COUPLE of seeds if im giving them away. its a little spicy and then the sweet!! i LOVE that. i eat it with chips/crackers and cream cheese. you should try it. my father has a cumquat (sp??) tree that i like to use too. ive never tried grapes, but it IS berry season. i just made a cobbler yesterday and didnt even think about jelly. i cant wait to go berry pickin now. i also have a mulberry tree in the yard...i havent tried that yet. we arent that far apart..i live near houston. good luck with your jelly, im going to see if i have the stuff now!

I thought you were talking about Jell-O, and then I read further down and saw jalapeno's and was like "ummm...they're not talking about Jell-O!"

I've never made jelly but my mom and grandma have. I just recently got a "real" kitchen instead of an apartment kitchen so I may have to try it sometime.

Right now I'm eating homemade blackberry jelly that I bought at a fair.

I'd love to make some dewberry jelly..mmmm... Mayhaws are good too. Are mustang grapes the same thing as muscadine grapes?

I think they are basically the same Shannon! Where do you get dewberries? I'd like to try to make that.

I want it, Eleysia. I won't be producing it, don't worry. I just give some to my parents and inlaws.

Dewberries grow out in the wild and they look like small blackberries but they have a more tart taste to them. Dewberry cobbler tastes soooo good! I use my grandma's recipe for that.

I wasn't sure if they are ripe yet, maybe they are? My parents have some out in their pasture and my Dh has found them out in the woods on his dad's hunting lease. We need to go look in a park around here and find some.

The flowers look like this (they bloom around March)

And the berries look like this. They grow on stickery vines.

I bet you have some around there somewhere Michelle.
