So funny to see another hair dye topic! I dye my hair. My doctor said it is totally fine and I can continue this while I'm pregnant. I think I also read this in the "What to Expect When Your Expecting" book too. What do your doctors say about it? Why do people make such a big deal if the dr says it's ok and so do books? And then I wonder if I will look like a totally awful person if I do continuing dying my hair. Especially with my history.

My OB/GYN told me no. I haven't asked the RE yet.

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with it, but I am a worrier and just don't do it while pregnant, or in the 2ww. I hope to not be dying it again for at least 10 months

From what I have heard, after the 1st trimester, dye is ok to use... I think they sell toxin free hair dye, but I have no idea who makes it. You could probably find it in a Sally's Beauty Supply or something like that.

I'm sure dying your hair is okay during pregnancy as long as you're in a WELL ventilated area. Probably meaning you're doing it outside. I personally wouldn't dye my hair during pregnancy, which is exactly why I've kept my hair the same colour for a long time now.

I have a friend who is a hair dresser, and she says that some of the dyes they used in the 70s were REALLY bad for that sort of thing, and even though dyes are a lot better now, people still have issues with doing it while pregnant. She has friends who still worked dying people's hair all throughout pregnancies and both mama and babies were fine.

I got my hair dyed my hair right about the time I conceived Erin and about a week and a half before she was born. No issues yet.

The ventilation is very important though.

I didnt read all the responses, but i think it isnt as big of an issue these days. id say if youre in a well ventalated area go for it. I did it like 3-4 times when pg with gavin and he is fine.

I dyed mine all through my pregnancies with both of my kids. No problems. I think it's just from the old hair dyes, and not an issue anymore. I was told it's perfectly safe in a well ventilated area. I usually open the window and put a fan in it facing out the window (to suck out any fumes) while I am putting the dye on, then I head out to the back porch while it sets. I use the fan again when I am rinsing.

Thanks ladies! I made my appoinment four days before I'm fetile...about as close as you can get before the 2ww!

I'll probably still dye it, but not until after the first trimester (positive thinking!).
