how many here smoke/did smoke?
i stopped when ttc but after the loss i headed straight for the fags again ive asked the doc for help to stop again but he has actually told me not to try just now as "its whats keeping me sane"
i stop when im pregnant, no problems. as soon as i get that bfp i just quit and with 3 i stopped before i even knew as i was sick whenever i smoked! the last 3 days ive been smoking but a LOT less (was on 20+ a day superkings and now maybe 6 rollups and 2 menthol) ive not been trying to stop this week, i just cant be bothered or get dizzy when i do!
i plan on trying to quit again next week cos im hoping that being really busy this weekend (fundraising etc) will help straighten my head because lately ive not wanted to leave the house and i know thats making things worse.

I smoked......until I got my BFP on Oct. 26th.
I give anyone big time credit for trying to quit, it is not easy at all.
I am glad I do not miss it and do not intend on starting again....lets hope I can stay strong!
Best of luck to you and to ANYONE trying to quit !!

I started smoking when I was 12 years old. (Yes, I was young!) I have been smoke free for one year, and three months today. I wish I could give you some great advice on how to quit, but I don't want anyone to have to quit the way I did. No one ever wants to do it either. In January of 2007, my father passed away holding my hand. One of the last things he made me promise him was that I would try to quit smoking. He died from a form of cancer that is caused by inhaling toxins. (smoking)
Ten days after Dad passed away I lit up. Took two hits, and threw it out. I went home and threw out all of them. I haven't smoked a day since.

I used to smoke too. I quit about a year and a half ago. I used the patch and it was a huge help. That's what kept me 'sane.' Otherwise I don't think I would have been able to do it.

I used to smoke, but quit over 6 1/2 years ago. I just decided one day to give it up and that's what I did. I hope you are able to quit again.

thanks girls.
i have to cut down or quit cold turkey normally as im allergic to the patches and the gum makes me sick.
this time i wasnt actually intending on quitting (i know that sounds bad when im ttc) but because im finding hard to smoke much due to getting dizzy and sick (nearly passed out when shopping today) i thought id give it a go!
im still finding it hard to quit so ive set myself a strict goal of NO MORE than 1 an hour. the reason ive done it this way is because if i can go the hour i can go longer and normally if i need one by then il do something to keep busy so could possibly go longer than that. small steps but eventually i have to get there right?
ive also bought no smoking stickers to put round the house so when i have stopped/cut down to a minimum no one will be able to smoke in my house! mark smokes too so its his fault i started again

i smoked a pack a day until i found out i was pregnant.....then after the miscarriage....i started up again. i absolutely hate it. but if you are going to try, ill be your quitting buddy. my husband also smokes. we never smoke in the house. maybe you should try that first. only outside, so as to cut down the inconvenience of having to go outside. that helped me alot. im trying to get the hubby to quit too. so far, not so good. good luck to you, it is a VERY hard thing to do. but just think how much better you will smell. thats what i keep thinking! i HATE to stink!!

we did smoke outside for ages but because i was smoking so much i got fed up. now we only really smoke in the kitchen (when its cold here its REALLY cold) lol
there is no way mark will quit. he tried cutting down but then got depressed and increased again so im going alone with this.
i bought 20 fags on thursday and i have 2 left now so im pretty pleased with myself (so are the kids) i have some rolling tabbacco left for emergencies but im not buying any more fags. i really want to do this!
good luck hun, its not easy but we both know it will be good for us

I know how you feel. It is probably one of the hardest things to give up. I have quit and started up 4 months later. Then quit again. As of now I have bee smoke free for 4 months (again lol ). I don't think the cravings ever completely go away. But I know you can do this. We will all support you. It is going to bee really hard if your dh doesn't start smoking outside though. I hope that he can give you the support that you need. Good luck hun.

It is a hard thing to give up. They controlled my life!! and I hated it. I just wanted to add some encouragement to help you to quit. I quit when I found out I was pregnant with Abby. I have always wondered if that was too much when I found out and if that was why she died. I know that doesn't make much sense, but I still feel guilty. Anyways I looked up all of the effects smoking does to our babies. Also I don't know if you were are aware of this, but smokers take longer to get pregnant. I really think that is why it took me 5 years to get pregnant the first time and only a 1 year the second because I didn't go back to smoking. Actually after Abby died, I did smoke for about a week and it made me feel sick, so I stopped. Just another idea, but quit when you can stay home for 3 full days. After 3 days most of those awful side effects have left you. I hope you can stick to it and even just cutting back is better too! Good Luck!!
