Hi all,

I just lost my baby at 16 weeks. I delivered the baby after 10 minutes of pushing and had an 8 minute D&C (by vaccum) just to get the remains of the placenta out. It was 3 days ago and the reality of the loss still hasn't really hit me. I've been trying not to think about the loss, but to look forward and hoping to get pg again as soon as possible.

I've been getting different answers from doctors and am confused now - some said that since I delivered the baby by myself, 2 months is good enough. Others, since I had a D&C (although a short one, and just for the placenta) 5-6 months is better.

My question is this - how long were you told to wait? I would like to see what the majority was told. I was at the hospital when all this happened and were treated by several doctors (one at the E.R, one after the admission to the hospital, another at the D&C) and each had a different oppinion.

So sorry for all your losses and wishing you all the best with the TTC'ing. I hope to be joining you all soon

Hi Sharon- I'm so sorry for your loss. Hope you are doing ok. You've come to a great place for questions, advice or if you just need to vent. The ladies here are wonderful and supportive.

I had a D&C at the end of February and my doctor told me to wait two cycles before TTC conceive again. He said this gives your body time to heal.

My t&p are with you.

Im sorry to hear about your loss. my thoughts are with you.
to anwser your question,

I had my first m/c in May 2006 at 14ish weeks, I had a d&c done and was told I could start TTC again as soon as I felt ready. We started TTC after the first AF and then about 2 months later we got pg with a bean that stuck and now have 1 DS.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have never had a d & c... my m/c was natural. My dr. said to wait 1 cycle before ttc, but I believe it is longer for m/c's w/ a d & c.

Hi and

I am so sorry you lost your baby

With my loss at 14 weeks (my water broke and I had a mini labor followed by a D&C) my doctor told me to wait one cycle.

5-6 cycles seems like a LONG time. I say 1-3 cycles would be the normal wait time.

I am stubborn though and have always TTC right away

Feel free to jump right into the TTCAL board. We have lots of members waiting to TTC.

I am sooo sorry to hear about your loss! I hope you are doing well and taking good care of yourself. I had a blighted ovum and had a D&C on Apr 22, and currently I'm ttc right away. My dr said you could wait one cycle and that is for dating purposes if you were to conceive right away. I figure if I were to concieve right away they could do an u/s as they had to do with my second child because I never recieved a period after the first child and then found out I was pregnant. The u/s was exactly right so I know they could do that again if we were successful right away. I feel ready, but for me there never was really a baby and I had my doubts from the beginning. You have to decide what is right with you!

Hello and Welcome.

I'm so deeply sorry to hear you lost your baby!!!!

I had a natural m/c and wasn't told anything about waiting. DH and I are waiting based on personal preference.

I agree with Bobbie, 5-6 cycles/months is a LONG time to wait! I say 1-3 sounds good.

Good luck hun!!! Feel free to jump in wherever on here! This board is amazing!!

I really appreciate you all sharing from your experience.

Hope to be back here soon - I will wait at least the one cycle and then see from there. Thanks again!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my baby at 27 weeks but I didn't need a d&c. I was told to wait until after all of the testing came back. I had to wait 6 weeks pp to go and get my blood tested and then 2 weeks for the results, which told me that I have 2 blood clotting disorders. I was told to start 5mg of folic acid and a baby aspirin, along with my prenatal vitamin right away and then after 1 more month we could start ttc. With my history of "infertility" we started ttc the 2nd month though.

It is a very personal decision of when you start ttc again. I know most dr.'s want you to wait 1 month to help with dating the next pregnancy. Some say 3-6 months because of the emotional healing. For me I would only suggest getting testing done first and then start ttc.

I just wanted to let you know that you should allow yourself to "feel" whatever you are feeling. It is all very normal.

Hugs!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss It sounds like everyone is pretty much in consensus, but I just wanted to add that after my first D&C, we were told to wait one cycle so my lining would have a chance to build up.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
