ok here's the short version. we're supposed to take a trip to thailand and vietnam in august, to see both family sides. this was planned a long time ago, even before we decided to ttc. when i was pg in feb, it was decided i couldn't go cuz i'd be over 6 months in aug., plus i wouldn't be able to get immunized for all the diseases.
well now we are ttc, and the trip is kinda back on. we haven't bought tickets yet, but that's cuz the hubby is busy and flaky
i don't want to wait to ttc. but if i do get pg, who knows when that will be? i could be anywhere from 0-4 months pg at that time. putting ttc on hold is not an option for me, but the hubby really wants to go. i do want to go too, as my dad has never seen my son (his only grandchild). i'm afraid we'll buy tix, then i'll end up being in the 1st trimester in aug, and then i'll be too afraid to fly. i read that flying in the 2nd tri is actually the safest, and that will only happen if i get pg THIS month.
any advice?

That is such a tough call as I wouldn't be able to put off ttc either. Is there anyway you could get your family here? I don't know the money side of the price it would cost you to get there but perhaps you could split the cost of your plane tickets to put towards your family's side and your hubbys.
We're in England and my mom is in the states (hate being that far away) but it's cheaper for her to fly here.
I wouldn't want to be away from home for long during the first trimester myself, I have this fear of having another mc and don't want it to happen away from home. I know that sound obsurd and I don't know why I fear in that way but it takes over me.
I hope that you can sort things out, I know it's frustrating.

I would go for it... you probably won't have the opportunity for awhile after you have a baby... and it doesn't mean you still can't ttc. I would go for a week or two and enjoy yourself!

I think the only thing more frustrating than TTC is putting your life on hold for TTC.
I say go for it. If it happens and you are PG then, just enjoy allowing your family to see you over the moon with joy and pregnant. I don't know why there would be more risk flying in the first trimester? I would ask your doc if you are worried.
I really believe if something is meant to be it will.
I say book those flights and start planning your trip. Plus what better way to take some of the stress off thinking of TTC all the time.
I wish I could go too! I sooo need a vacation

I agree, you should go. You mention having to get immunized, I don't know how that works when you are pg, but can you do it now (before you get pg)?

thanks guys, you're right, i'd be really mad if we didn't go AND i ended up not pg anyway. the thing w/ flying during the 1st tri is that if you're away from home and have a m/c, that could be bad. it's not the flying itself.
i think i'll just go and when the time comes, we'll see what the situation is.

I took a fly from Europe to Sol Cal when I was 6 weeks, and everything was fine.

As suggested, make sure to check and see what immunizations you will need. Some are active and some are passive so if you need active ones, I don't think they recommend them for pregnancy.
I really pray you end up preggers before you go even though it sounds like the trip of a lifetime plus seeing family again.
The girls gave you great advice and I wish I was more of traveler.

if i do end up pg, i would just get the vaccines that are safe. i don't even want to get immunized now w/ the live ones, cuz we are ttc. but i think as long as i stay in bangkok, it's ok. it's only out in the rural areas that malaria and hepatitis are a threat. the hubby actually suggested we stay in bangkok the entire time and not go to vietnam (it is pretty bad there w/ the iffy water and food.) which is ok w/ me, since my family is the one in thailand.

I agree with the ladies. Book that trip! I know it's hard, but I wouldn't want you to put on hold a trip to see family cause you have a fear of having a m/c. It's a tough situation to be in for us since we've all been there and know what it's like and the fear is 1000 times worse.. but we still need to live life and try to enjoy our pregnancies. Go visit family, just be safe about it (like you were saying in your last post). I'm sure they would be THRILLED to see you when your pregnant

Buy the tickets - that will practically guarantee a BFP! So also buy cancellation insurance. Either way, you'll have a great experience.

I would go for it, even if I were pregnant. One thing I've learned is that life is too short to put things off for tomorrow.

the hubby has almost booked the tix. i realized that little things i did like switch to decaf coffee (read about caffeine and m/c) wouldn't hurt, but not taking a trip to see my family whom i haven't seen in 8 yrs was stupid. especially since i'm not even pg yet.
thanks for putting it in perspective for me, i was just so concerned about the what ifs. kinda sucks how a loss can screw w/ your good sense.

thanks stephanie. also, my dad lives in yangon (the city in myanmar where the cyclone hit) and for a few days i didn't know what happened to him or if he was ok. then my cousin in thailand emailed and said my dad's friend made it to a phone, called my family and told them my dad was ok. but still, i haven't heard from him myself, or know where he is. if you've seen the pics and news, the entire city is flooded and bodies are just floating everywhere, and there is no food or water or power. so i'm still worried, and makes me want to go see him even more.
he would come meet us in thailand in august. i just hope he's doing ok if he's stuck in the city.
