Can you Ovulate and the OPKs still read negitive?

I started having pain on the left side of my abdomen so I called my DR (im a bit of a hypocondriac ) and he said it was most likely my body releasing the egg... I thought that was a little weire since i've never had any pain before when I ovulate (well, i've never noticed it) So anyway, I took one of those OPKs i have and it was negitive.. The thing is I don't remember when my last period was because I never keep track unless i'm TTC- i think it was a couple weeks but im not so sure. So thats why we were gonna wait until next cycle so I'd know where my cycle is. Needless to say we BD anyway just to be on the safe side. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone eles- the pains or the negitive opk, when you are O'ing?

I don't usually have any sort of pain with ovulation but have noticed that the OPKs are not always the most accurate.
I would have some months where I would get no positive test and then other months where the OPKs were positive at different times (like CD13 and then CD18)

I am probably not much help but when in doubt BD!!

That should be our motto: "When in doubt BD"

I sometimes feel twinges when I am getting ready to O.

As far as OPKs...last month I had a beautiful, dark positive. This month, nada FF thinks I have already O'd, so we'll see if that's true over the next couple days. If it is, then I can also accurately say that OPK's don't always work!

I agree with and I am following Katie's motto!

i nearly always get O pains i stopped using opks as i was using them AS WELL AS temping, checking cp and cm and they always said i wasnt ovulating but charts said i was (and i knew i was due to the pain)
doc confirmed i was Oing and advised me not to use them as i know my body better than opks do!
good luck

Hey just wanted to add my 2 cents lol. You CAN ovulate without a pos OPK. Sometimes your LH surge isnt 24 hours long, or even 12 hours long. So unless youre POAS every hour or so then you may in fact miss your surge. I get o pains, and they are usually right on. I decided not to do opk, just go by temping and CM and CP. At this point though i dont even know if i think temping was necessairy, because according to fertility friend, they cant tell by my temps when i o'd, but low and behold im pg.

Also when the Dr. Told you that you might be o'ing and you did the opk, you prolly did in fact miss your surge. You get it 24-72 hours before the egg is released, and it is believed that the o pains are the egg breaking through the follicle. So you probably just missed the surge. Good luck

Thanks ladies!

So if i did miss the surge... does that mean I wont get pregnant? We BD last night after I got off the phone w/my DR.. and will again tonight. But is it too late this cycle to get pg?

I dont think so. the surge is 24-72 hours before the egg comes out, the the egg lives for 12-24 hours. you should be ok if you DTD lastnight good luck!

I've been using a saliva test and OPK's. The saliva test is definitely showing a pre-ferning pattern, but the OPK's - nothing. I'm a little frustrated because the OPK's were expensive! Next month I will not use them (of course, I'm hoping that next month I won't need them).

Good Luck!

The OPKs are positive usually 24-36 hours before the egg pops out. But of course it is possible to miss the surge because of the timing or even if your OPKs aren't sensitive enough. Then after the egg comes out, it's good for about 12 hours.

So if you BDed once you had O pains, you've definitely got a chance!

I get ovulation pain, and when I use clearblue easy OPK's they are ALWAYS negative. Other brands will give me positives. Weird. My last pregnancy, I BD on friday night, had O pains on sunday, ended up pregnant.
