Please try not to worry too much. When I had my methotrexate shot, my doctor said that the drug only stays in your system for 20-30 days but still advised us to wait three cycles before TTC again. And, I found some instances online where someone got pregnant after taking methotrexate and they had a healthy baby. I would contact your doctor just to make sure you have all the facts and put your mind at ease. Everything will be just fine.

It will all be okay I promise Just take a deep breath. Did they follow your levels back down to 0? Or did you poas at some point and have a negative??? I've googled for you about the shot and pregnancy. Not much has come up except that there is not much information on it and subsequent pregnancies. But from what I can see is that it only works on fertilized egg when the shot is given. It prevents the fertilized egg from growing, duplicating, so on... I can't seem to find the half life of the medication (how long it stays in your system). I'm sure if you are preggo the baby will be fine. And yes I'm sure your midwife will hit the ceiling but things happen for a reason in my opinion. Keep us updated.

i had the shot in april, and my doctor said to wait for one period. im pregnant again and the doctor isnt worried one bit. he says it is such a small dose and is out of your system in a couple of weeks. i only had one shot, and i know when some women have to get more, they should wait longer. dont worry, if youre pregnant your baby will be fine. i feel great, and so far the baby is too! good luck!!

You should be able to contact a pharmacist or the manufactuere of the medication for information on half life break down.

When I google "methatrexate" "Half Life" I come up with little. Mostly forums come up. But Google Automaticallyu suggested "methotrexate" "half life" with a slightly different spelling. This seach result brought up more information about this. I dont know if this is the same medication being discussed, because I am usually three pages behind everyone else when it comes to certain this.

I would contact the drug manufacturer or go to their website. They have got to have info about the half life.

I'll be waiting to see your FMU's test.

I won't hope for a BFN for you, things DO happen for a reason and if you're preggers again, this baby is meant to be known!

I asked on ectopic trust about this and she said:

[Methotrexate depletes folic acid (folate or folacin) Also known as vitamin B9.

This essential vitamin is absolutely necessary in the special things a body needs to help a new pregnancy grow

Methotrexate - depletes folic acid - it wipes it from your body and so the advice not to conceive is about making sure your bodies stores of vitamin B9 gave been replaced and can 'grow' a healthy subsequent pregnancy

Our recovery, from the removal of folic acid varies from woman to woman - and in some subjects deposits of methotrexate is found in the liver up to 100 days after the medicine has been given.

The outcome of a pregnancy, if it's conceived in this three month time frame is uncertain but it's unlikely you'd be asked to consider a termination. More likely, your doctors would order regular scans and monitoring and if any problem with the pregnancy, if it were to become established, or to continue, would be reviewed.

Absence of folic acid is associated with what is called Neural Tube defect - this includes things like Spina Bifida, Hare Lip and Cleft Palate - but equally there are a number of babies born, to women who conceived after methotrexate, as you describe, who are just fine - that is why doctors would be unlikely to suggest anything other than monitoring.

So basically if i start takin my folic acid again now..i have a better chance of a successful preg in august

That is good info. I haven't had an ectopic but there are a number of women on here who have.....maybe we should keep this info handy (sticky?) so that others who are dealing with methotrexate questions can find it....just a thought.

Also, I'm glad things worked out for you and I hope that August brings a sticky, worry-free (well, more worry-free than now ) BFP.
