A few times on various boards i have said the word 'rubbish', meaning i am not very good at something,or something isnt very good, take this for example:

'I have no creativity, my siggies are rubbish lately'

And American (no offence to you USA ladies ) people laugh at me when i say that What is it about the word thats funny, lol? Im not picking on anyone or being horrible, its just its a commonly used word here in the uk and id love to know why its funny

I don't think it is a funny word. I've used it before, but I don't think for Americans that it's common... idk why though.

It is probably because we don't hear it often and it sounds very proper and old school to us...like my grandma would say rubbish when I would say crap!

I agree with April and Eleysia, it's so proper sounding. I love it though. I love it when you UK mommy use your Britishisms. It just reminds me how different we are even though we're technically speaking the same language, and I LOVE the variety in culture.

But I can't help but giggle when I hear/read it.

LMAO at this thread. I love it when you use the words rubbish and mate. We just don't use those terms very often here.... I think it's cute!

Another one I like is the word "brilliant!" instead of great or whatever we say in the U.S.

Rubbish is a word I would use, but it does sound "proper". I also like seeing the different words on here. SOmetimes I see a word and I'm not quite sure what it means. For example, I saw "barmy" used in another thread. Not sure what that one means.

I use the word "ooftah" too. I think it's norwegian. It means "oh my" or some other sigh of surprise. People look at me so weird when I say it.

LOL I know.. I swear.. Zunga is only a powell river word.. Cuz like right over on Vancouver island.. (80 minute ferry ride, the ppl from over there havent even heard of it lol) it is a "Rope Swing" or "Tarzan Rope" or what ever.. Those ropes that hang from trees and you swing out into the water or jus swing on them... Swinging out into the water is the best tho lol You RUN, Swing! and let go into the water lol.. Those are Zungas hahaha... Heres a couple other ones..

Word: Meaning:

Dace / Nice/Awsome
Cache / Short of Casual/cool
Heat/Heatie/Heatscore / This ones common... Im sure you all have heard those.. Means: Obvious, like Your being Heatie... As in.. Your being obvious yer guna get caught..

How about "sticky beak" or "bubbles & squeak"?

I watch a lot of British t.v.!

I have to add my own word: bunnyhug - that's what us folks from Saskatchewan call a hooded sweatshirt with a puch in the front.
