I just wanted to share with you ladies what I've been doing yesterday and today. You see, I collect and paint ceramic dragons. Unfortunately I only have 2 out, because there's no room to display them in this apartment. Anyway, they all have themes, and I've had a lot of fun with the guy I'm working on now.
Here's a couple previous ones:
Fire and Water
Earth and Air
Ice
Sun and Moon
Thunder and Lightning
Night and Day
Life
Death
Metal (he's the finished one I have out)
And the new guy is Desert. Here's a progression for you:
He's not quite finished yet. I have to antique him (I brush on a wood stain, and then wipe it off. It stays in the cracks, and makes it not only look old, but brings out the detail). But all the actual painting is done.
Anyway, I just wanted to share!

This last guy took between 6-8 hours. Not all in one sitting of course...lol. I'm not THAT focussed! Especially with Erin around now. But I really enjoy it.

I LOVE dragons!!!
Actually, I have several family members that were born in Dragon years (Chinese calendar).
My favorite bumper sticker says:
Don't mess with the dragon because thou art crispy and taste good with catsup!

They are cool. I don't have the patience to seat and paint, but I wish I did, they look so cool.

Dawna, that's so funny! Makes me think of this guy:
Thanks ladies! I love showing off my dragons.
ETA: Is it silly that Metal is my favorite because I'm so proud of the rock? DH wanted me to paint it like the inside of a cave, and I love the way it turned out!

Okay, here's the finished product (minus the clear varnish, but that doesn't make a difference in how he looks)
before antiquing:

after antiquing:

Awww, thanks! My parents met in an oil painting class, so they're pretty artistic. Both love painting ceramics, and did it with us from the time we were young. I think the first time I got to paint my own thing was when I was probably 7 or 8. I got to "help" before that (paint in big areas of one color, etc). We'd all go to the little ceramic store and all of us would get something for 2 or 3 dollars and then sit around the table painting. It's something that I'd love to do with my own children, provided we can find ceramics to buy!

That's so cool. I remember painting ceramics with my mom when we were younger. I stink at it, but it was still fun. I still remember the black cat that I painted (with a cute pink nose).

Those are great Brittanie! You are very talented!!
And I really enjoyed seeing the difference between before and after the antiquing. It makes quite a cool difference!

All I can say is WOW you do great work. My favorite is the Ice one. My mom paints ceramic stuff too. She did it when I was younger. I wish I had half the talent that you two have. Again love how they turned out

They are all absolutely beautiful. You are so talented. I love that your parents shared that with you. That would be an awesome thing for you to do with your kids.
