I called today to get my Lupus anticoagulants/anticardiolipins results back today to see if I have a clotting issue. The nurse who answered didn't know how to interpret the results and the OB who ordered them is on vacation for 2 weeks...grrr!!! She told me she'd have another Dr look at them and give me a call back.
I returned her call (she left me a voice mail) and the Dr who checked the results says "The numbers are slightly above the normal range, but they aren't anything to worry about" and the results will be passed to the ordering Dr for when she gets back from vacation so she can call me and discuss the results.
I'm really thinking that the Dr who checked the results didn't look over my file at all BECAUSE telling me 'they aren't anything to worry about' after I lost my angel possibly from this makes me want to choke her. I really hope these results are an answer of some sort so I'm not constantly second guessing myself when I get pregnant again.
Just wanted to KUP and vent a little.

Well, considering the doc was only calling you to read your results, she probably didn't read over your chart. Which is very unfortunate, especially to say "it's nothing to worry about"
I'm sorry girl!!! I wish she was a little more involved in your chart and knew WHY you were calling about the results.

I am in a similar boat. I have lupus, but I was told that my levels aren't anything that would cause me to miscarry. My b/w results showed slightly above normal when I had my bloodwork done in April, although, I was also told it was nothing to worry about, and nothing that would cause a second trimester miscarriage. So I am not sure, epsecially since my doctor's don't think it's a problem in any way. They say the second trimester loss was probably caused by something else, and possibly fifth disease. I had been exposed my first week back to work in september (nice, huh?), but I was told miscarriage due to fifth is VERY rare. But the inflammation I had for awhile could have been fifth too, I am sure it is out of my system now.

That stinks that you can't seem to get a straight answer
Is there any way you could ask for a copy of your test results (or the #s) and then do some research on your own until you can talk to your own doctor?? Just a thought...
Hope you get some *real* answers soon!

I'll choke that doc for you!! I'm currently waiting for my results and just found out I'm pg, so I'm hoping these results will ease some stress, not make it worse! Please kup on what your doc says about the results!

When your Dr gets back have a sit down and ask that it all be reviewed and a proper risk assesment made .
I hope it really is nothing to worry about and your just fine

Ok, the OB FINALLY is back from vacation and called me today!
She said that my anti-cardiolipins level was slightly elevated, so she called the Perinatalogist for her opinion. They don't understand why the lab didn't run a confirmatory test on the levels. The Peri wants the test re-run in a month's time from the last test (which is after July 14th) AND the Peri is ordering even more tests but the OB wasn't sure what they were going to be when she talked to me. THe OB did say that with the extra tests it may take a bit longer to get the results but she would call me as soon as she got them. So, I'm going on my bday next Wednesday to be poked with needles for more bloodwork, I'll be really happy IF they ever come to a conclusion.
I'm crossing my fingers that this all goes right since I'll be trying again the end of this month.

I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts. I know how frustrating it is when a doctor seems to care less. I hope you get some answers soon.

I am so sorry they are putting you through all of this. I will tell you what I found out about my numbers. It all depends on when you were first tested. If you didn't wait until all the hcg was out of your system then those numbers could be slightly elevated. All pregnant women have one clotting factor against them and that is being pregnant. Secondly being overweight is a factor and of course smokers are at a higher risk as well. Now the treatment for higher anticardiolipins is usually just a low dose aspirin (81mg) and should be taken before actually becoming pregnant (although I think it would be safe to start taking around the time of O. Of course you want to speak with the dr. first.
I do have another suggestion though. It would be wise to see a hematologist and let them look over the numbers, then they will run further testing and be able to give you a lot more info. This is the only way I have learned as much about my clotting disorders. Do you know if they checked your homocysteine levels or checked you for mthfr, factor 5 leiden, or any other clotting disorders? I strongly urge for those tests to be run as well if they haven't already. Because if any of those are positive then you will also need a blood thinner while pregnant, and also one of them depletes your body of folic acid and so you would need to take extra folic before becoming pregnant again. That is what I had to do for almost a year before I finally got preg. again.
I hope you get all the answers that you need soon. Sometimes getting answers is bittersweet too, but I am here if you ever want to talk.

Wow, this is a lot of info! I was first tested about a month and a half after my loss. I had gotten AF before I was tested, so hopefully my hcg number was 0. This is why they are having me retested, just in case. I am slightly overweight (about 40 lbs ) I didn't know that could affect it and I'm not a smoker. The OB did mention the baby aspirin but said she doesn't want me to start taking it until we get the next set of test results back if at all.
The Lupus anti-cardiolipins/anti-coagulants is the only test the OB has had run on me for clotting disorders. Those others that you mentioned might be what the Perinatalogist is adding to the list. I'll ask the lab what all they are taking vials for when I go next week because the lab slip was faxed to them already. If they aren't what you listed, I'll call for my numbers from the OB and make an appt with a hematologist.
My RE thinks it's a bit odd that they are running all these tests on me as I haven't had multiple losses YET, but I'm glad my OB is being proactive so far.
Thank you all for your kind responses!
