How long did you wait before you decided it was time to get things checked out and see if there was anything wrong? Right after my m/c I told myself that I would give it one year from the m/c (or another m/c) before I sought help. Now I'm wondering if I should wait that long. I'll be honest, I've never given charting a fair chance, but I know my schedule in the mornings is always different and I've seen the frustration that many of you have gone through, so I'm not really interested in doing that. On the other hand, I feel like if I don't do it, I haven't done EVERYTHING I can to try and get that BFP. My first BFP came on only the 2nd cycle when we started trying last time, so I keep telling myself "it's just around the corner". I don't know how long it would take me to get an appointment. Oh, and one more question (and it's a dumb one!) What does RE stand for? I know it is medical professional, but not familiar with the acronym.

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble. I'm anxious to hear your stories of how long you waited and what prompted you to decide it was time to get assistance.

Two things prompted me to get medical assistance....well, 3 actually. My ob/gyn said I could, back to back miscarriages, and my age (39). So it was 6 months of TTC before we ended up at the RE.

DH and I went through quite a bit of testing....no problems found.

We did one round of injections followed by IUI...all I got were huge cysts on my ovaries.

I just finished a month on bcp's and taking Metfomin to get rid of the cysts.

We are not going back to the RE (reproductive endocrinologist) for now...we will try naturally this next cycle and use the extra progesterone that I still have and see what happens.

I had my first loss in Oct 06 and chose to just keep trying on our own for awhile. Got pg again after 1 cycle and m/c again in Feb. 07. We again tryed on our own but in Dec. 07 I called my doctor about getting help. I went throught the tests (Pap, Blood work, HSG, SA) and then was put on Clomid. I charted and had cycles where I wasnt Oing so I'm glad that I went when I did. I had had enough of the wait. It was almost a year before we went and talked to the doctor. I got lucky that my OB was able to do some of the tests through her rather then get sent to a RE. I tryed Clomid for a month and I guess it was what my body needed because I got pg that first cycle on it. Found out a year and a week or so after my second loss. Longest year of my life.

I would say that when you feel ready to talk to your doctor then that will be the right timing. Some want you to wait a year before getting medical assistance but even if you just go in to talk to them about it you will get a better understanding of the process they will go through. I hope that you are able to get some answers and I am so sorry for your losses. I know the waiting is the hardest part right now.

Funny you should ask...

I had my m/c and D&C in November and have been trying ever since. Our son was unplanned and we got pregnant quite young, so we had no problems getting pregnant with him, and we got pregnant the 1st month we tried after being on BCP's for 9+ years. So, when we had month after month after month of not getting pregnant, I decided in May to call and make an appt to talk to my doctor.

I figured that it was better to go and just have things checked out rather than keep waiting if there is a reason I am not getting pregnant. I also decided that if I made the appt (which was for 6 weeks out) and then was pregnant, than that was FINE!!

So, we went 2 days ago and now have a plan of action. I will test next week, but if AF shows again, I will feel better knowing that at least I have a plan of how I am going to get my BFP.

I recommend you call and at least set up an appt, but you ultimately have to do whatever you feel comfortable with.

HTH

We went after one year TTC. That was when I was 28 and my gyn made you wait one year before giving a referral to an RE. Last year, when I was 34 I got another referral because we'd been TTC one year and was sent to a Gyn by my physician. I HIGHLY recommend that you go to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) and not a gyn. The specialist knows so much more and won't waste your time. Also, it often takes a few months to get an appointment with an RE, so I would say to ask for a referral, make an appointment with an RE, and hopefully you'll get pg before then but if not you'll have an option. Since I m/c in March and am 35 now, my ob/gyn said if I'm not pg in 6 months he'll give me a referral to an RE. That's pretty standard...if you're under 35 they make you TTC one year, over 35 it's six months.

Good luck!
