i have been taking the same prenatal vitamin since I found out I was pregnant. My Dr. told me to keep taking it until it is time to start TTC. And of course while pregnant. He said be sure it has 400 folic acid. Well I was just reading my bottle and it says 800 mcg. Is that enough or too much? I know I am being paranoid about everything right now.

I'm sure that you need 400 mg - I'm not sure what mcg is. I'd double check with the DR to make sure it's enough. Mind you, if it's labeled as prenatal vitamins, it's probably okay.
My Dr. put me on prenatals about 10 years ago (just in case). Now it's a habit to take one a day!

I'm almost positive you are not to exceed 800mcg. So, you should be fine.
What prenatal are you taking?

I just read here: http://www.babycenter.com/404_how-mu...pregna_2232.bc
that the recommended dose while TTC is 400mcg and jumps to 800mcg after you become pregnant.
However, I'm sure you could also find somethig totally different on the web... I would probably just ask your doctor as he/she would know what is best for you. Good luck

There's no problem with exceeding 800mcg. Your body doesn't absorb what you can't use.
100 mcg (micrograms) = 1mg (milligrams)
1000mg = 1g (gram)
My best friend takes prescription prenates with 400mg (that's 4000mcg) in it, because her sister's son has spina bifida. If too much were harmful, then she wouldn't be taking that much.

You are not taking too much. If you have too much you will just pee it out anyways. Basically folic is just b vitamins. I take 5mg total you are taking less than 1mg so you are fine. In fact taking folic acid 3 months before getting pregnant is so much better for both you and baby. 400mcg is the minimum a woman should take.

Okay after Rhonda's post, I realize my best friend is taking 4mg not 400. My brain is gone.
