I'm sorry this might have been asked and answered before.

Someone else mentioned being high risk after thier loss. Does having a miscarriage cause you to be high risk? Or would it be the cause of the loss that makes the pregnancy high risk?

I don't think having a miscarriage in turn makes your following pregnancies high risk. I think other circumstances have to also be in place for that.

As for your other question, I'm not sure.

Sorry hun!

After my miscarriage my Dr. told me that having this miscarriage did not put me at any higher risk than any other woman. So according to my Dr. a miscarriage is does not mean you are high risk. I think high risk is usually when you have other health issues.

Great question.

I agree with what the other ladies said...according to my doctor, 1 m/c does not make you high risk. But, I think that if you've had 2 or 3, that would tend to make you more high risk.

Hi, my dr told me that after 4 m/c, I am still not high risk. The only woman I know who had a high risk pg was after she had major issues with the delivery of her first child. I agree with the ladies and think the high risk label is put on you only when you have other health issues that could affect the pg.

I was told I was high risk, even though Cora's cause of death wasn't a health issue, and my pregnancy with Erin had no health risks. But she died at 38w1d, so maybe later losses are high risk? I don't think I will be this time, though, with a healthy, successful pregnancy under my belt.

I was told that unless you have other health issues you're not considered high risk until you've had 3 m/c. Mind you, ask 10 doctors, you'll probably get 10 different answers.

This is probably true too! It might have just been my Dr. and the fact this his own first child was stillborn, so he labeled me "high risk" for my own peace of mind!

IDK, I think i will probably be high risk because my last miscarrage was a molar preganancy, so hopefully they will do more in the begining to make sure im not having another one. But i can't remember if he actually said i was high risk...

I think every dr is different, i've had 3 m/c all together 1 then two healthy pregnancies and then 2 losses and they will considered me high risk next time i get pregnant.

I specifically talked to my doctor about this. Being "high-risk" is totally at the discretion of each doctor. Some consider teen pregnancy high risk, some consider pregnancy over a certain age high risk, some say if you have IUI/IVF you are high risk. I think late term losses (any over 20 weeks) are high risk in MOST doctors eyes until you have a successful pregnancy after that loss.

Then I asked, "Am I going to be considered high risk since I've had 4 miscarriages in the past two years?" His response....."Only if you want to be high risk. it's totally up to you."

Once I do get pregnant again, we are going to treat me as high risk for the first trimester. After that, we are just going to take it back to business as usual.

With all that said, I am sure that certain types of loss (based on the cause of the loss) would probably get a person considered high risk, but in many cases, I think it's just for the woman's peace of mind.

I am considered high risk because I lost Kairi due to full placental abruption which NEVER happens at 20w, but it happened to me. Since I've had this happen once, I have a slightly higher risk of it happening again (but that it still slim to none). So I agree with the other ladies that it's based on health issues. I'm just glad that they'll probably take me a bit more seriously when I complain about things like the spotting I had with this last pregnancy.
