Well, yesterday we got the results of dh's SA. Keep in mind that my doctor only ordered the HSG and SA to start the ball rolling, but was pretty sure that everything would come back fine and then I would start on Clomid (keep in mind that we have a 10 year old son together and then I got pregnant the first month we TTC again-back in September).

Well, my HSG came back all fine, no problems. Dh went last friday and did his SA (kinda begrudgingly ). Well, I got a call from my doctor's office yesterday that dh's SA came back with *very low* sperm count (only 5 million...normal is >20 million), as well as decreased motility and morphology.

I was SHOCKED, to say the least. That is the LAST thing I expected, and I was really worried about how dh would take the news. I called and scheduled an appt for Aug 5 with a Urologist. The nurse said it could be an easy fix (a variocele in the scrotum) OR they could end up treating both of us (fertility drugs to increase the odds of catching an eggie) OR we could end up doing IUI. We will just have to wait and see what he has to say.

So, that's all my news. Dh actually took the news really well. He said, "well, now what do we do??." I told him that maybe this would be our opportunity for twins and then be done having kiddos (we want 2 more).

We are actually leaving early tomorrow for a week in upstate NY visiting dh's extended family. It is *small town USA*, so I will not have internet access while we are at his grandma's. I will check back in next weekend. If anyone has any input or advice, I would LOVE to hear it!!

Melanie, I'm sorry about the results of the SA, but I'm glad to hear that Thad is willing to take steps to see what happens now. At least now you have some information to work with. I don't have any experience in this area, so I don't have any words of wisdom. I'll be praying that these new findings can get you on the road to a BFP soon. Keep us updated on the progress.

Melanie,

I'm sorry for your unexpected bad news. On a positive note, it is good that you figured out what is going on so fast. It is also so GREAT that dh took the info well and is ready to do what it takes. I hope that your upcoming doc visits will help you determine a plan of action. I don't know too much about this, but I do know that when you do an IUI they "wash" the sperm which concentrates it and take care of the count issue. I'm not sure about morphology though. Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for the words of encouragement ladies! It really does mean a lot to me!

When I first found out yesterday, I was a mess. I was glad to at least have a direction to go in, but I was really worried how dh would take it. When he took it better than expected, I was impressed I am still having my ups and downs. I am glad we know what's going on, but I am worried that it may just never happen (I know, really premature thinking...but I can't help it sometimes! ) So, I am trying to remain optimistic until we talk to the doctor in a couple weeks.

You are all right. At least now we have a direction. I am still a little confused though about my pregnancy in September. Either that was a crazy fluke (1st month TTC#2!!!) or A LOT has changed since then. That is one question I will be asking the doctor!

what the other girls said! I'm sorry the results weren't better, but now you have a direction, and some plans. Even w/ low counts, and everything else, you still got pg so you know it can happen. Just think, now you are going to get some help to MAKE it happen again! Have fun on your trip, and we'll look forward to your return!!!

I'm sorry the results weren't what you expected. I am glad dh took it so well and is willing to do what it takes. I hope the dr can do something "simple" and you get pg with twins before you know it. Have a wonderful trip. We will miss you.

Oh I am sorry to hear about the SA report. I do hope they can do something to help you and your DH get a BFP soon. I am glad despite the news that your DH took it well and is open to ideas of fixing the situation.

Melanie, I'm sorry to hear your news. Thankfully it seems like it's easily treated. Beware of wanting multiples - an old friend of mine is pregnant now with quintuplets!

Oh man! Well at least you do have some answers. Sometimes just knowing what is wrong and how to fix it helps loads

Dave's sperm stink too. I can't remember the actual counts but I do know the morphology was bad too.

Anyways.... ummm... where in upsate NY???? I want to have a play date!!!!! Please say Rochester....

Given your fertility history, I'm kind of suprised at his SA results. Did he do it at home or in the lab? If he did it at home did he get the results back to lab quickly? My DHs SA had some irregularities so his doctor had him do a second one to make sure the results were accurate. It turns out they were and he was then referred to a urologist. But I'd recommend doing a second SA before going to urology, IMHO.

Enjoy your trip & good luck with this!
