ok insted of typing it all over again i am going to copy and paste what i wrote on the other board i contribute to:

i wanted to tell you girls that i went for my first RE appt. last week because i had so many questions. first of all i dont know if any of you have heard of LPD (luteal phase defect)...some doctors don't believe in it some do. its when the time in between O and AF is under 12 days. well, from charting for months and months and the last few even using a CBFM, i knew all along that i was O'ing late, i would get a pos. on CD 18 of a 29 day cycle. now, when you get a pos. it means you will O 24-36 hours later so that is giving me a 10 day LP or shorter. its usually caused by low progesterone. well the RE was really a word that begins with a B that i dont want to offend anyone with...LOL! but she wasnt a nice lady whatsoever. she didnt want to waste her time with me because i had gotten pg and that proved i wasnt infertile. i know miscarriages are common and i wouldnt even bother going to a Dr. if i wasnt so concerned with LPD being the reason that a baby cannot attach properly or at all. she didnt give me many answers. she told me that the CBFM and any OTC OPK's are usually incorrect and she guarentees that i am not O'ing that late. well even my BBT's point to that. anyway, all i wanted to do was see if it were possible to get a progesterone test to ease my mind, but like i said she didnt want to bother. also, when i went for my follow up blood test after my m/c i had a nurse there tell me that it was not possible to test my progesterone until i was pregnant again, and that i should come in as soon as i see "those 2 pink lines" and they will start testing it then! i was kinda like...ok well #1 thats IF i get pregnant again and #2 i m/c just over a week after i found out i was pg so thats risking the life of my next child by not testing it now! plus i have read online that it is in fact possible to test progesterone before you are pg, so hopefully someone in here has done it so i can say "told ya so!"so if you ladies have any insight, please do tell. anyone ever heard of LPD and getting any progesterone testing done to correct the problem and if so, how was it corrected? i hope this wasnt too confusing! xo

Hmmm I dont think it possable to test P4( Progesterone) before pg IF testing it FOR the health of pg that is not there yet. Your P4 level flucuates every cycle so you NEED to be tested when you see 2 pink lines for that cycle you are currently in.

My dr believes that a LP less then 10 is LPD. What is your LP anyways

I have had p4 run several times to see if I needed meds to Ovulate and to see if I did Ovulate. I would think those might be a start for you.

The general testing for p4 is about cd21 on the assumption you Oed cd 14. Yes I know we all do not ALL O cd 14.

My dr explained that would reflect in the cd 21 p4 test.

If that test was low then we would look into what to do. Mine was a whopping 9 after Oing ( means I didnt acually O very well at all). I ended up on clomid and when pg I was tested at 14 dpo and it was 50.2

All my P4 was testing was done in realation to my Oing abilty and how well my corpas luteam was doing after I Oed.

My dr wanted to see 15 or more on a med cycle and 10 or more if no meds.

Good luck!!

Have you looked in natural P4 cream to extend your LP.

ETA:I know if you were take supps it most likely will make your af not come till you went off the P4 every single cycle if not pg.

I know nothing about testing your progesterone, except, I don't think it would make sense to test before being pregnant - since that WOULD be the reason behind it.

Good luck hun!!!

I have heard of a LPD but don't know a whole lot about it. When I went to the dr after 6 mo of ttc, he said the first thing that needed to be done was a progesterone check at 7 dpo. I was charting my temps and I was o'ing on cd 17 or cd 19. It flucuated every other month. The dr told me that they like to see the progesterone level at least at 10. When I tested at 7dpo my progesterone level was only 7. I faxed the results to him and he never got back to me. The next cycle I ended up pregnant and had a m/c at 4 wks 5days. Part of me believes that low progesterone was part of the problem but i'm no dr by any means. i have an appt with a new dr next week and I am going to see what he says. I am sorry she was such a you know what to you. She shoudln't have been that way. I hope that you find a good RE that will help get you the answers and the help that you are looking for. No one should be treated the way she treated you. That was uncalled for. G/L hun and if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me anytime.

Thank you so much! I'm really hoping my appt. next Wed. goes well and this Dr. will at least test my progesterone. I think I am just going to come out and say "could you please test my progesterone to ease my mind?!" and see what happens. So I have a question for you< ttcinarkasas (or Jennifer?!) , When you went in and had a progesterone test @ 7 DPO, did they just have you chart normally and come in when you thought you were 7 DPO according to your charting? Or did they monitor your O for you? Part of me believes that progesterone levels played a role in my m/c also. I hope we can both get some answers.

I actually had a 9-10 day LP. My dr also didn't believe in LPD. When I was pg with the baby I m/c, I actually had a low progesterone level. They had me taking progesterone pills. After the m/c, I tried for 7 months and nothing. I started taking B-6 (50 mg a day) The first cycle my LP jumped to 13 days. They cycle after that I got pg with this baby now. It worked for me, so you might just want to try it out. It doesn't work for everyone, but you never know unless you try. They also have progesterone cream that you buy over the counter that you use after you O. I was gonna try that next to see if it helped. Let me know if you have anymore questions. G/L I hope the new dr will be better for you.
