Since everything seems to be costing more these days, (food, gas, cost of living in general) post some of you tips or ways that you try to save money?

I only buy what is needed.

Gas isn't a problem for me. I rarely drive as it is and I get 32-34MPG city.

When we go grocery shopping, we set a budget of $100. We only buy what is on sale. That food lasts us two weeks and some times more. We also make smaller portions of food. That way our food lasts longer.

We make a list before we go to the store and try our hardest not to buy anything not on our list...we try to buy food that comes in bluk (like frozen corn dogs) and stuff like that...

As for gas...there is no luck there...I drive an Expedition so we pay $100 in gas about every week and a half...

I think the biggest thing that helps us is meal planning. I write my menu out by the week, and shop ONCE a week (we go back to the grocery store mid week sometimes for milk and fresh fruits/veggies).. but meal planning saves us a lot of $$. I buy what's on my list, and only that. When I don't meal plan, not only do I spend more in gas $$ running to the store several times.. but I have more of a chance of picking up things "just because they look good".

When I go shopping, a list HAS to be made. That way I avoid the possibility of buying something I already have at home. For example, my mom didn't write a list today and bought Miracle Whip, which is like $4, we HAVE a half bottle AND a full one already in the fridge! So she wasted money on it.

For gas, we just got a new vehicle, so we're saving 20 cents for the first 2,500L of gas. So that's helping.

For everything else, a list has to be made. Otherwise I spend way too much.
