so today was my daughters 3rd day in second grade. my husband went to her bus stop to pick her up after school. but apparently it came early??or we were alittle bit late.
so ok no biggie we call the bus place and they say she is at her school. so go pick her up there. so far no work from the school. ok. so my husband starts to walk there. and calls the school on the way to let them know he is on his way. they say she is NOT there. they put her on a different bus that came late. ***??
so where is this bus going to drop her off?? the school doesnt know any of this. then my husband saw the most horrific thing he could ever see. our daughter getting into a car, with someone we dont know. and when he told me. my hear stopped!!!
he runs after the car. and the car goes down our street. and then backs up to him. its an older lady who says she saw her crying and was helping her get to her house.
thank god it wasnt anyone else who got her.
so we call the bus company and ask why she was let off where she didnt know and just told to walk home safely. they said she is in 2nd grade and can walk home alone. OK if thats the case why wasnt she let off on the first bus she was at??????? she knew her way home from there. and woulda been safer.
they then blamed us and said shame on you for not being there at the bus stop and then said shame on the school for putting her on the second bus instead of letting her stay at school.
then we call the school and tell them the whole story and what the bes company said. they get mad, but the bus is closed till tuesday. so they haver to wait to get answers until tuesday. but you can be sure. me my husband and tabithas dad will be there in the am waiting for our answers..
tabitha was scared. she said she thought she would never see us again. i was a mess for awhile. i am ok now..but not great. i just cant believe they dropped her off where she wasnt familiar and told her to walk. she is 7 years old!!
and i talk to her about strangers all the time.. what was she thinking,,,

OMG! How horrible for all of you! I hope that at the very least someone will admit fault and apologize! I hate it when the buck gets passed. Don't they have a policy for this? She must have been so scared.
I'm glad that she is safe and sound at home with you.

i remember my ds doing silly things like that (and it was his fault) and even though we are in a small place where everyone knows everyone i was still in a total state wondering where he was!
i pray you get some good answers on tuesday hun. what a shame for your dd! i hope she is ok but has learned her lesson about getting into strangers cars!

OH, Wow, that is scary, and if I were you, I would bring this up in a school council meeting. Every school system should have some kind of plan in place for this, and the 2nd bus drive that dropped your poor daughter off should either be reprimanded or fired. They are entrusted to keep children safe and we rely on their judgment. That person obviously showed a BIG lack of judgment.
The only thing I can say about your daughter getting into a car is that maybe she was so terrified that she just wasn't thinking straight.
I hope this all gets sorted out for you soon.

I would have been petrified (in her position and in yours). Thank goodness she is safe!!
What horribly irresponsible people! Don't they realise how dangerous the world we live in is and the impact that will now have on your family, especially your little girl!
Shame on them!

I know for a fact that bus drivers CAN NOT drop children off unless it's a designated stop. Find out exactly where your daughter was dropped off and find out if it's a designated stop. If it is not, that bus driver will need to be fired. When the children are on the bus, the driver is responsible for all children on the bus, at all times!!!

OMG I am so sorry that you guys had to go through all that. I would be furious that the school and bus company didnt seem to have a care in the world that a 7 year old was expected to find her own way home. Like it wasnt their responsibilty to make sure she got home safe. That is their job isnt it. I'm sorry this just makes me so mad. I would be putting in a complaint to the school and bus company and then maybe this wont happen to another child. I hope you get some answers. I would let them know that if for some reason no one is there to pick her up at the stop again (ran late or what not) that she is to go back to the school and wait for you or DH to get her there and not put her on another bus. I would think that is what they would have or should have done to begin with. I'm so glad to hear that she got home safe in the end.

That is so scary!! I am so glad to hear that she is home safe and sound, now, but I can't imagine how scared you all must have been. I hope that someone takes responsibility and can assure you that nothing like that will ever be able to happen again.

That is so scarry. I know exactly what you were feeling. Glad the older woman was there to help. Having my little girl getting into a car with a stranger has always been my biggest fear. She doesnt comprehend that because some one looks nice doesnt mean they are nice. I am glad everything turned out okay.
When my son was in 2nd grade almost the same thing happened to us. It was his first day of school. Not only was it the first day of school, but we had just moved to this town. None of us knew our way around. Because of where we lived the Bus picked him up in our drive way and was supposed to drop off in our drive way. His bus stop was added specifically for him. The bus driver was a different driver on the way home and she didnt know about the new stop. So Bobby was sitting on the bus and when she took the bus back to the bubs lot, Bobby got off the bus and was following her around. He couldnt even tell anyone where he lived. Here I am standing in the drive way waiting and waiting for the bus. An hour after school got out he wasnt there. I called the school and he wasnt there. My husband went to the school to look for himself. I called the Sheriff's they were looking everywhere for him. At this point the bus driver had him at the bus port and looking up info on who he was and where he lived so she could call and explain what happened and bring him home. Someone at the bus port felt bad for him because he was crying and got him a happy meal and a chocolate milk. He came home as happy as could be. I was a wreck tho.

Oh, WOW, I'm sorry!!! I agree, I know just how terrifying this can be too. The same darn thing happened to my son his Kindergarten year. FREAKING KINDERGARTEN!!!! They were put off at an unfamiliar bus stop, as the driver told them this was their stop. (By they, it was a 1st grader and 3 kindergarteners who all went to the same daycare; and the daycare bus always picked them up at that spot.) So the daycare bus driver was waiting for them at their regular stop and when they didn't get off of the bus, she flipped out. Called the daycare, who called all over creation, they couldn't find the kids. Finally, the daycare bus found them just by driving up and down the streets of the neighborhood. Luckily, the 1st grader was smart enough to stay put when she realized that she didn't know where they were; and she kept the three smaller kids in line. (Although, my son and another boy had to go potty, so they peed in some bushes in the poor people's yard they were stranded in front of.) And I didn't hear about it UNTIL I PICKED MY SON UP FROM DAYCARE OVER TWO HOURS LATER! I was so flipping steamed!!! And nobody took responsibility for it, the bus company or the school. Nothing was ever done, not even an apology. I hope you get more of a response than I got, the whole situation is so wrong!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness that she's safe at home with you now!!!
