I have an appointment to get my hair highlighted this tuesday, and I'm unsure if I should go or not. I know that when you are TTC, you are supposed to act like you are already PG, so that you do not harm your brand-new little one as they are first developing. So my question is this - I am about to ovulate any day now, and I am afraid of doing dammage to my baby if I do conceive if I get my hair dyed. Does the hair dye (or fumes) effect the baby or is it OK to get my hair dyed????

I dyed my hair once while I was pg before, and now I feel really guilty about it. I heard afterwards that the fumes are bad for a developing baby, but I'm not sure if the sorce was accurate. Anyone know?????

I have looked up stuff online about this and got mixed reviews. For the most part it seems that highlights are ok, it's when the dye and chemicals are on your whole head, soaking in for 45 minutes, that is when the carcinogens in the dye can harm your fetus. But if you're not pg yet, I think you're good to go! There are thousands of women that get their hair colored throughout pg and I'm sure everything's fine. Just don't go breathing in the fumes

I hope that helps. Like I said, I found a lot of contradicting articles.

to be honest hun i think if you searched everything then someone would come up with even dtd is bad when ttc
the way i look at it is all those years ago before internet was easily accesable to everyone, people were dying hair, smoking and all sorts while ttc knowing no different and if it was as harmful as some make out then the human race would be gone!
im not saying everything is bull but i know a lot of people who had their hair done as a treat to themselves when pregnant and it did no harm.
i really think us all panicing about every little detail is what is causing some of us to not get our bfps. but thats just MY opinion!

I think it's okay, especially before you're pg. Your blood doesn't start flowing thru the baby's until around 4-5 weeks, so nothing you do can badly effect the baby before then. And as long as you have plenty of ventalation, hair dying is okay.

I'd always heard highlighting especially was ok as the dye is painted on and not all over the whole head. I dyed my hair when I was newly pregnant with my oldest and didn't know I was pregnant yet. He is almost 8 and has no lasting effects But, I was pregnant and pregnancy hormones can make hair dye do wacky things! I dyed my hair and auburn color and it turned bright orange!

Only thing that I have ever heard is that you are not supposed to dye your hair during your first trimester .I have never heard anything about when you are ttc.So i would say it would be fine.

Ok, your right - since it is highlighting, it probably isn't as bad as full hair color. I think I am going to go ahead and dye my hair on tuesday. I am not pg right now, and my roots are about 3 inches long, and I really need to fix them. I have been putting this off becasue I felt guilty before. I have made 3 apts for highlight my hair, and I keep canceling them. *** OK deep breath*** Something needs to get done.

i've alwasy read that it was ok. i also did dye my hair in my 1st tri (but i used the new perfect 10 clairol which only takes 10 min.)
it doesn't sit long enough on your scalp to absorb to harm the baby, plus if you haven't even o'd yet, then there's really no problem.

A lot of people I know get their hair dyed one solid colour when they're TTC and when they're preggo (after the 1st trimester) they go ahead and get the highlights done. I guess that way, when you're newly pregnant, and your roots are coming in, they aren't that noticable if they solid colour is something natural.
