Hey Ladies! I must confess I have been a lurker here ever since I had a chemical pregnancy in late August. My husband and I are trying to conceive number 2!! We waited one cycle after that and started trying again. So I have pretty regular 28 day cycles that are usually right on schedule. My two week wait was up on October 22nd and no AF! Took a preg test and got a BFN....Started weird spotting on the 23rd....still nothing significant so i tested on the 24th (Friday) and got a BFP. Was not really dark but definitely could see it plain as day. Later that day I started bleeding almost like AF but then it stopped.....then it started....tested Saturday morning same BFP line......bleeding off and on.... I was convinced that I was having another chemical so I woke up this morning to make sure my line was fading or maybe not there and the BFP line is still there and it is the same as all three...has not gotten darker and have not gotten lighter...Bleeding has stopped and I am only spotting on and off now. I know I should probably go to the doctor but when I went in August they ended up doing bloodwork, ultrasounds..etc...just to tell me it was chemical and it left me with a big medical bill!! I was just wondering if anyonelse has gone through multiple chemical pregnancies? I appreciate your responses, just from lurking for a month or so I know everyone here is so supportive!! Thank you

I have no experience with Chemical pregnancy. Can you schedule JUST blood draws to see where your numbers are going ? Or is your dr definately going to want to do a sonogram? I know how spendy a m/c is........I swear I had more tests while losing my pregnancy than if I actually had carried the baby to term!!!!!

I wish I could give you an answer on the chemical, but I know nothing about it. Can I welcome you though?

I agree that you need to get betas done. It is definitely possible to have multiple chemical pregnancies. But the bleeding could be implantation bleeding or some other benign bleeding. Bleeding during the first tri is very common. But without at least 2-3 blood draws you probably won't be able to know much for a while.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Not to freak you out, but it sounds like you are having classic symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy...the spotting off and on and the BFPs not getting darker...are you having any cramping? Especially on one side more than the other?

I'd at least call your OB/GYN and see what they say...I don't think they charge for a phone call

Welcome to the board!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss! I do agree, go get some BETA's drawn and see where they are before you go and get an ultrasound.

Good luck!!!!

I appreciate all of your responses and I really am feeling frusturated so bear with me..I just need to get it out of my system.. I think I need to get a new doctor. I just moved to this area in June so I had to find a new ob/gyn. Well when I went into the office to get checked out in August they drew my numbers and then said they needed me to come in 5 days later (this occured right around labor day) and get my blood drawn again and have an ultrasound done. Well they made me do the ultrasound first and then come back to the office to have my blood drawn and the ultrasound showed that indeed there was nothing to see (chemical preg) ....but wouldn't they have known that from my numbers being back to 0??
So anyways my point being is that I called them today to tell them about my situation and I asked if they could do some betas to see where my numbers were. Well they said that it wouldn't really tell us much and I would be better off with an ultrasound. Well my husband is out of town and I have no family here in town to watch my daughter so this is not really possible so I told them that.....so I am left with the option of just waiting it out a few days and taking another hpt or finding somebody to take my dang betas!! Sorry for my long post I know I am new here so I hope you all are okay with me posting my frustrations here!!

(also wanted to add that I am not having any pains or cramping)

I would get a new doctor. Early on in a pregnancy a blood draw will give you more info than an ultrasound. Before 7 weeks it is very common to see nothing via ultrasound

Get a new doc ASAP. The doc should know that an ultrasound right now won't give you much info at all. Most likely you would see nothing regardless of whether you are pregnant, chemical, or ectopic. My doc doesn't like to u/s until my beta is around 5000. And even though one blood draw doesn't tell much, two will give you a lot of info.

I also second what the ladies said about ectopic. Don't freak out about it, but maybe google some symptoms...pain, etc. to watch out for while you're waiting on the doc.

P.S. Welcome to the board and I'm sorry you are going through so much right now!

Ugh your doc is a moron! If it were my patient.. id have them do 2 rounds of betas (at least) to see if the numbers were going down, up, or staying about the same. Then depending on the results id consider an u/s. Espically since like the other ladies said... you wont see ANYTHING via u/s right now. Grr i hate that idiots are out to make a buck instead of take care of people!!!

stepping down off my soapbox now..

OMG, what an idiot your doc is!!

I can only echo what the ladies have said, have you got another doc you can go to? (I'm in the UK so bear with me if I am asking dumb questions, here its easy to change)
Waiting it out seems so unfair when your on your own and not getting support from the health care authorities.

I also wanna say welcome from a fellow newbie, I wasn't a lurker but in the past few days these girls have given me more support and hope than I could ever have imagined!

Good luck!

Welcome to our board. I don't have anything new to add, everyone else seems to have covered it already. I hope that you get things sorted out soon. Good luck!

Hi, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm currently going through my first miscarriage - I'm waiting to see if it will happen naturally before determining if I need a D&C. I was spotting early on in my pregnancy - but I didn't do anything about it because I had heard that if you are going to miscarry, there is not much they can do (other than run a bunch of expensive tests!). Anyway - my spotting was very minimal so I didn't worry too much. At 8 weeks I went in for my first appointment - and they did an ultrasound and found a fetal pole but no heart beat. They drew my blood and then told me to come back for another ultrasound in a week. (They were hoping my dates were off and I was earlier than I thought). My doctor also prescribed me progesterone supplements. The following week I went in and they were still not able to find the heartbeat - and the baby only measured at 7 weeks instead of the expected 9 weeks. I asked my doctor if I should have made an earlier appointment - and she said no -- that there was no way to prevent this from happening --- HOWEVER - if I get pregnant again she wants me to call immediately and she wants to put me on progesterone immediately. She'll also do blood draws to check my progesterone level -- but she'll want to start me immediatley on them since it won't hurt anything.

So my suggestion is that in addition to getting your HCG levels checked - I would also get your progesterone checked. Once I started taking the progesterone this time, my spotting stopped completely.....not even the slightest bit of spotting....so I think I'll take her advice when I get my next BFP and start the supplements just in case.

Just wanted to offer you another opinion....my doctor did say that not all doctors believe progesterone supplements can help a pregnancy -- but just seeing that it stopped my spotting (even though the heartbeat had already stopped a week before my first ultrasound) makes me hopeful!

I wish you the best of luck! Keep us posted!

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome here. I decided to wait a few more days before going into the doctor. I tested again this morning and all I had left was ClearBlue digital, and sure enough the words pregnant popped up AGAIN. I stopped bleeding and now there is just a little bit of brownish discharge (sorry if TMI) I called my same doctor and insisted that I get blood tests done, they have me scheduled for 10:00 tomorrow morning, and then they will do another draw early next week, and then depending on my numbers decide if an ultrasound is needed. Now why in the heck could they not have agreed to that two days ago? I guess I was a little more adamant about it today.......I would like to change doctors but right now they have all of my history from my last miscarriage and I feel like it will be easier to get my bloodwork done with them and after I find out what is going on I will look into finding a new doc. Maybe I will be someone that just bleeds in early pregnancy for no known reason?? Who knows, I am not getting my hopes up too much but only time will tell!

When I first read your post, my initial thought was, "I would wait it out." but the ladies are right that an ectopic is dangerous! So I dont know. I guess I never go see the doctor or call unless its REALLY serious. I trust my body, usually to a fault. So anywho - I am glad you are getting things checked out,and I'll be curious to know what happens. (((HUGS)))

UPDATE*

Just in case anyone is following this post or maybe lurking and have a similar situation I figured I would update. I went to the doctor on OCT 30th and HCG= 156.
I went back on Nov 6th (one week later) and HCG= 1096.

So my numbers have went up and I am scheduled for an ultrasound on Nov 14th. I should be around 7 weeks then. Thanks for all of your support!
