Hey girls,

I've noticed that so many of you have had D&C's recently but are farther ahead than me...I had mine a week ago. I have been on the pregnancy loss board but it's kinda slow. I was hoping you could tell me what I can expect in the next weeks and months. Here's the no kidding what I want to know...

1) how long did it take your hcg levels to go down? My doctor isn't tracking them but I'm kinda tracking it myself with pg tests. I'm still popping positive and want to know when that will stop.

2) how long did it take for your first period after your D&C?

3) Sex? Did it hurt? How long after your D&C?

4) My body still feels pregnant....how long does it take for that to go away?

Thank you so much for any help you can offer. My DH and I want to get pregnant again as soon as possible but it's hard when so many physical symptoms keep me in the here and now.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss!!!!

I didn't have a D&C, but maybe I can help you out here a little. As for your hCG levels decreasing, seeing that you were almost 11 weeks pregnant, it could take a couple weeks for them to drop or for you to see a negative on the pregnancy tests. Which is completely normal. Hopefully you won't be waiting long to see a negative!

As for the rest of your questions, I'm not sure. Hopefully one of the ladies that have had a D&C can help you out. I hope you are back to 'normal' soon. Right now, you're in he healing process, and I hope you're doing okay.

I am so sorry for your loss. My Dr didn't monitor my HCG levels so I can't really answer that one. I found out at my 10 week appt there was no hb (I had never heard one), but he said my uterus measured about 8 weeks. I scheduled a D&C 2 days later, but my body started to miscarry naturally that morning.

AF came 36 days after my D&C, but that can vary between women.

We BD 2 weeks after my D&C and it didn't hurt.

I never felt pregnant, so I can't help with that one either. But like mentioned, once the HCG is low enough, symptoms will go away.

I'm sorry for your loss too...I can only answer a few of your questions since I am also still recovering from my d&c, but I'm a couple weeks ahead of you since mine was 3 weeks ago, so thought I'd share my experience:

A: Mine haven't been monitored post-d&c but I think mine were pretty close to zero w/in 2 weeks based on loss of pregnancy symptoms (explained more below)

2) how long did it take for your first period after your D&C? A: still waiting for mine to return At my follow-up appt last week my OB said it typically returns within 4-6 weeks.

3) Sex? Did it hurt? How long after your D&C? A: My OB said (and reconfirmed last week, sigh) no sex for 4 weeks after the d&c, so we haven't tried yet. A number of other people I spoke to said their OB let them after 2 weeks, so not sure if mine is just really conservative or if there's a reason why I'm not allowed to yet.

4) My body still feels pregnant....how long does it take for that to go away? A: I had very severe m/s requiring multiple medications since my 4th week of pregnancy, so I can answer this one with pretty accurate timing. My OB told me to expect the symptopms to taper off w/in 2 weeks after the d&c. My major pregnancy symptoms (m/s in particular) were gone w/in 5 days, and the rest were totally gone after 10 days.

My D&C was on September 4th I was a little over 19 weeks

1 .. I think it was a little over 2 weeks , I think I ovulated around cd 25??


2. My period returned on day 33. So It did not make my cycle to messed up to bad.

3.. I think My doctor an surgeon said 2-3 weeks. I think we waited 3 weeks and I do not think it hurt at all. I think we were both just very careful

4.. Well since i was almost half way so it took a little longer, I started leaking milk about three weeks after surgery .My body thought I had the baby. Other than that I was pretty much back to normal with in a couple weeks

Hi, I'm very sorry for your loss. My D&C was 6 weeks ago tomorrow, at 9w1d. It sucks

1) I didn't have serum HCG checked and couldn't bear to check HPTs so I can't tell you the answer for me. My HCG five days before the D&C was somewhere around 14,500 if that makes any difference.

2) Still haven't had my period *grr grr grr*

3) We had sex probably three weeks after the D&C, it was not painful at all but I definitely cried.

4) My body continued to feel pregnant for probably 10 days afterwards, and I had a little bit of bleeding and cramping for that long.

I hope you're healing from all this, I don't know if I have any words of wisdom to offer but it gets easier.

Thank you girls sooooo much for your info/advice. This stuff really helped a lot....not just the stuff the Dr. tells you when you have a D&C.

I had a really scary experience today. I'm exactly 1 week and 1 day after my D&C. I stopped bleeding/cramping on Sunday so I was thinking I was doing pretty good. Well, I went to workout today and ran on the treadmill for 30 mins. I was good until about the last 2 minutes. Then, I started to get shooting pains and cramps. I was cramping so bad I was almost sick to my stomach. I had to crawl to the locker room and call my husband to come get me because I was afraid to drive. I'm better now, but wow...I was in so much pain. Needless to say, I will take a few days off.

I'm just impatient for the physical symptoms to be over so I can feel like myself again. I want to put this behind me so we can concentrate on future baby making.

I was only 9 weeks along with a Blighted Ovum but it took almost 3 weeks

Hi, I'm so sorry for your loss, but you have come to the right place for information and support. I thought I would add my info from my D&C in August, as mine is apparently a bit different from most of the others. I was 10 weeks but baby measured behind the whole time (chromosomal abnormality) so my levels may not have been as high as is normal for 10 weeks.

1) how long did it take your hcg levels to go down? I didn't closely track mine, but I believe they were down within 2 weeks

2) how long did it take for your first period after your D&C? 26 days and my normal cycle is 28-30

3) Sex? Did it hurt? How long after your D&C? My doc said wait 2 weeks I don't remember any physical pain but I had a hard time with it emotionally

4) My body still feels pregnant....how long does it take for that to go away? Like everyone else said, it should correlate with your declining HCG so you should expect 2 to 3 weeks....it was less for me, but mine seemed to drop quickly

I hope everything gets back to normal soon for you so you can start trying again. I was able to try again after 1 cycle.

i kept testing with hpts and it took about a full cycle to not get a positive hpt

2) how long did it take for your first period after your D&C? my period came like clockwork, 30 days after d&c

3) Sex? Did it hurt? How long after your D&C? we waited a full cycle for BDing, but it didn't hurt at all

i will also add, my first cycle after my d&c was completely whacked!!!! i ovulated way late and it was wierd. i'm very very sorry for your loss girl. it is very very difficult!!!! getting back to ttc will help you, at least it helped me. G/L
