I recently had a miscarriage at 5 weeks and 1 day (first ever miscarriage) On October 27th I started spotting and by the next day it was heavier so I went to the ER, and my HCG level was 30 so I was sent home with a "threatened miscarriage" (I knew I lost the baby) and was told o have blood drawn on Thursday to check my levels, and they were down to 8. I was supposed to have another blood test on Wednesday, but did not do it as I am sure my levels are back down to zero because I took HPT'S and they all come out negative

My doctor said we could try right away after bleeding stopped (I only bled 5 days) I am confused as to when I should start using my OPK'S that I bought? Do I count October 27th as day 1? If so what day should I start testing for ovulation? I took 2 OPK'S tests today that were negative

I am just so lost on all of this, as I said I have never had a miscarriage in my life and it devastated me when it happened

Anyways, thanks for your help

Tina

Hello, honey. I also went through the same thing...mine started the 25th. I went back on Friday and was down to 2. We are trying again now. However, what I could find to read said that the beginning of a mc is not day 1. If you get pg before your first af comes, it is difficult to figure out the dates. However, I also read that you normally o 2 weeks after the mc. So, I am confused as well, however am praying that I will get a bfp this cycle. So let me know what you think. Good Luck.

hello and welcome tina. im so sorry for your loss but you will find the girls here a great support.

day 1 is normally the first day of bleeding more than spotting (if charting then spotting wouldnt start a new cycle where light bleeding would)
miscarriage CAN change things though. it doesnt always, i was lucky enough to have normal cycles after my losses but i know plenty who didnt.
personally i didnt use opks at all my first cycle after loss, i just charted so that i knew what was going on and dtd when we felt like it rather than actually ttc.
i hope you get some answers soon hun. i know how devestating it is but please, feel free to ask anything you need or just rant/cry whatever, we have all been there and know sometimes all you need is for someone to understand what you are feeling.
xx

Welcome Tina. I am sorry to hear about your loss.

My Dr. told me to wait until after AF arrived before trying again. My cycles started up right on schedule (about 4 weeks after I first started to spot before my m/c). We waited for AF to show before we started to TTC again, so we didn't use OPKs until that cycle.

Just wanted to say that I'm with you all the way. I don't chart or use OPK's but if I did, I would def try them 2 weeks after a m/c. I just had a D&C 2 weeks ago. My doc, like you, just said to wait until I stopped bleeding/felt better to TTC. I finally took a HPT yesterday an got a negative so DH and I started TTC again yesterday.

I would put $$ that your first cycle after you m/c will be screwy. I would just do what you feel in your heart and leave the rest to chance. If it's meant to be and your body is ready, I truly believe it will happen. I'm glad to find both you and heather on this board. I hope we can help each other get through this difficult time.

Truthfully you wont really be able to get a good read on anything until you have atleast one cycle after your loss. Sometimes it takes even longer than 1 cycle to return to normal ovulation schedule.
