So, my parents decided to buy me a used car for xmas. They called me two weeks ago and told me to buy 1way tickets for xmas, because I would be driving home. Anyway, my father is a very intelligent man. He spent weeks online, looking for me a car. He called my mother at work day before yesterday and announced that he had bought one. Turned out to be a scam and after talking to police, etc...he is out $2800. I was devistated, for him. I can get by with or without a car. We live in the city, and public transportation is a lot cheaper and fine with me. But my heart is breaking for my dad. My mother told me about all of this, and asked that I not tell my dad that I knew about it. After she told me, I found myself absolutely inconsolable. My dad is(like I said) very intellegent, and my role model and I can't believe someone would do this to him or that he would fall for it. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

I am so sorry. That is absolutely disgusting! Are the police going to be able to do anything about it? Did he pay on credit card and can dispute the charges? (Probably not) I feel so bad for him!

OMG Heather! I'm so shocked! I hear about people getting scammed all the time, but I just assumed it was because they didn't do their research, and that's clearly not the case! I'm sorry this happened to your family! I second what Christine said, is there anyway they can get his money back??

unfortunately this man said that he was a soldier and in another country. He said that the military would ship the car, etc, etc. AFTER my father sent the money, my mother read the email, which stated that he was some sort of itt tech in the army, well, so is my mother. Aparently all itts have an ako(not sure if that is right) number. When my mom told my dad to ask for it for confirmation- all contact ended. I am still so sad. I can't believe my dad fell for this. If I could find this person, I don't even know what I would do. Because my parents have money, this was my dad's pride and his belief in his self that was stolen.
