So, I see people posting about their "betas" and going to the Dr's very early in pregnancy, like 12DPO. Both times I've been pregnant, I call my Dr and they schedule me around 9 weeks. I was cuious to know why or how others are going in so early? Do you request an early appt? Or because you've had a loss the Dr schedules something earlier and checks the betas? I've never even heard of betas until I posted here, so I guess I'm wondering why mine were never checked and why my Dr schedules appts so far out in time? Or is it that it's different for everyone based on what you request? Thanks, just wondering where I stand after my 1st loss in August and whether or not to expect my Dr to have me in earlier. Just curious...

With my m/c I went to see my regular doc, she took blood and confirm the pg, my ob would not see me until I was about 10 weeks.
With this pg, they did not do anything to confirm the pg, but since I had some spotting they checked my levels, maybe because I had a m/c I got in at 6w5d, but them I did not go back until I was 12w5d. I t hink it just depends of the doc.

My OB won't see you until you are 6+ weeks. There is really nothing you can do before that and nothing to see before that. Even after 1 or sometimes 2 losses it isn't uncommon to not get in right away.

Many women have had multiple losses or complications from their losses so their OB's choose to monitor them more closely so they can watch what is going on.

With my first pregnancy, I had my beta taken just to confirm pregnancy. A few days later I was having backpain, so my PCP did another draw just to make sure the numbers were doubling. I do know some Dr's don't do this confirmation though since HPTs are pretty accurate. And I wouldn't have had that second draw if I wasn't having a problem.

This time, I went in for my confirmation, and because the numbers were on the low side, and I was having spotting, they had me go in a few days later to see if the numbers were doubling. I don't know if my previous loss was another reason they wanted me to come in. But that being said, if they weren't doubling, there's nothing I could really do, but I definitely like knowing whether to feel relieved or not.

You could always ask if they could measure your levels early if you want!

Thanks for the info ladies. So, when I was pregnant with DD in 2005 I had to go in and do a urine test for confirmation. In July when I called I expected to do the same, but they said they don't do that anymore and as long as my HPT said pregnant they would just schedule me for my 1st appt. I was kind of surprised but I guess it makes sense. I just always hear about people's levels and betas and I thought man, I'm getting jipped nobody ever checked that with me haha. Thanks again.

BTW- I have POAS 3 times but all 10DPO and earlier, all BFN. So today I am 12 DPO and tomorrow I will buy some more sticks and try tomorrow. AF should be here Sunday and I am normally right on target with my periods, so I guess I'll know tomorrow or sunday HOPEFULLY! I was feeling early symptoms but I think i told myself it was just PMS so I'm feeling kinda down about that. i hope to be pleasantly surprised. DH and I talked about if we wanted to keep trying this month or wait but we never came to a conclusion. More to come! Thanks again.

Both times my doctor has confirmed my pregnancy with a pee test and then sent me for blood work right away (to make sure you don't have any diseases or anything that could affect the pregnancy) and then my next apt is 4 weeks after that.

With my pregnancy, I got my BFP and called the doc office right away, went in that same day for blood work. And that same day an ultrasound was scheduled to date the pregnancy. He said following the ultrasound to expect to be back in 4 weeks for my first appointment. I would have been 8 weeks at my first appointment.

I thought all docs worked like that.

i am always supposed to go right in when i find out im prego because of the history of ectopic, they need to know the baby isnt in my other tube since i almost died when my left ruptured. I think if you ask that your dr should allow you to have the blood work but in the end its up to them

My doc confirms with a urine test, orders the bloodwork and schedules a 12 week u/s. They also book you in for your 8 week appt. I guess it's different everywhere!
