Hello All..

I am almost 5 weeks pregnant. Went to GYN yesterday b/c I had some bleeding (red, abt a teaspoon) had an ultrasound, they saw the yolk sac up high and OB checked me and saw no signs of bleeding, it had stopped.

Today, I had more bleeding. About the same amount. I'm not sure if it has stopped yet, b/c I just checked and saw it when I wiped. I'm nervous. Worried.

I noticed that today when I went shopping, while I was crouching down looking at some things on a shelf down low, I stood up and had cramping. Heavy period-like cramps. Then when I went to the bathroom the blood was there.

Yesterday I figured the bleeding was from my attempt at shovelling a few shovels full of ice off our driveway the day before.

Can bleeding be caused from bending at this early in the game?

My pregnancy was detected at 2 weeks. Weird. And because it was so early and I was having cramping they wanted to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. Yesterday they ruled it out 100% and said that there is sign of miscarriage thusfar. I'm not far enough along yet to say whether or not my pregnancy is viable. There is not fetus yet. I go back to the doctors office on January 5th for a heartbeat ultrasound if all is well.

I was told that bleeding is normal. A teaspoon here and there is no concern, but soaking 1 pad per hour is cause for concern and reason to come in... until that, then just sit back...and relax.

It's hard to relax!! I've had spotting like 3 times during this pregnancy (my first) -- it was a very light tinge of pink...but now, the bloody red color is freaking me out.

Any words of advice??

p.s. ignore my signature info, b/c I just found out yesterday that I wasn't as far along as I had thought LOL. Today I am 4weeks 5days.

Saturday (12/20) betas were over 2100...

Hi and welcome!

Some women do have spotting (and heavier bleeding) during their pregnancy, esp. early in the pregnancy, and it's not always indicative of a m/c...we have a few women who post here who have gone through that and hopefully that can give you more insight than I can...

I really don't think anything you're doing (shoveling snow, bending over) would cause bleeding...only exception is having sex, and then (because your cervix is sensitive) bleeding can be caused by that....typically it's not a problem, and my OB gave same guidance yours did - as long as it's light and stops, not concerned....if you start to bleed heavily, then they want to assess you further.

I know it's tough to relax when you're worried something could be wrong...try to as much as you can, and hopefully your u/s will give you the good news & reassurance you need that everything is ok with your baby.

Thanks for your reply Lara -- hearing it over and over again is definitely reassuring, and to know that there are other 'real women' not just case studies, that have experienced similar symptoms is also comforting as odd as it may sound.

Bleeding during the first tri can be very normal and many times they won't even figure out why!

I bled constantly from 5w6d on in my pregnancy. I had a subchorionic hematoma, which is usually a very benign condition that will resolve on it's own by the end of the first trimester.

Blood in the uterus is an irritant so if you're bleeding that will cause cramping and again, isn't always a cause for concern. At this point there is nothing they can do except monitor you. Take it easy when you're bleeding, drink tons of water and try not to worry.

I know that this is very stressful for you. But it's true that bleeding can be normal and be nothing to worry about. Try not to panic.

Bleeding IS common during pregnancy. If you aren't passing clots, and in terrible pain, don't worry about it. (Easier said than done, I know!!!)

Bleeding can be very normal in pregnancy. Two of my sisters bled heavily during pregnancy and they went on to carry full term. It's hard not to worry. Remember, the bloodflow to the area is increased and tiny blood vessels can burst easily and cause small amounts of blood. I hope your next u/s confirms that everything is going well. Good luck!

Thanks again everyone! I feel a little more at ease. My bleeding seems to have slowed. I wore a pad all last night and nothing showed up. I only see the blood when I wipe, right now it's a dark brownish color. It's kinda gross looking. No clots.

I was worried last night that I would have the spend the holidays miscarrying... I try to talk myself positive, and I even started talking to my belly, though I know there is no fetus yet... I tell it to stay, be strong, hold on... We don't what him/her to leave us...
