I've been taking these for the past month or so for the folic acid to lower my rate of m/c and fetal abnormalities. Hopefully it works. But I'm having my hair fall out every date. I will get into the shower and then I will get clumps out of my hair. Sometimes I get scared.

Does this happen to anyone else?

No, I've been taking prenatals + DHA since August, and haven't experienced anything like that. What brand of prenatals are you taking, and did the hair loss start immediately after you took them? That might be worth a call to your doc...

I started in March or so and it hasn't happened to me.

Especially if it's clumps, and it started when you started the vitamins, I would stop them, and call your Dr.

I just looked up side effects for prenatals, and they list hair loss as a symptom of vitamin overdose...i don't know how much you'd have to take for that to happen - if you've just been taking one a day, I'd definitely call your doc...maybe you've got a sensitivity to one of the vitamins?

The other possibility I'll throw out there is that sudden hair loss can also be symptomatic of a thyroid issue, so if it's not the vitamins causing it, make sure you've had your TSH levels checked recently.

Hey, I don't think it's your prenatals. When you're pregnant your hair stops falling out pretty much completely after a while. When you aren't pregnant anymore all the hair that was supposed to fall out during the pregnancy falls out within a relatively short time-frame. My best guess is that since you were farther along before you had your loss, you had more time to hold on to extra hair. It usually takes about a month or so for you hair to regulate again after and to start falling out. I would talk to your doctor just to be sure it isn't something else. I hope it stops for you soon!

I know that this happened to me. My DH teased me for a little bit before he got a bit worried... but by then it was almost done. So unless clumps = you now have bald spots, I'd say it's just your body getting used to not being pregnant. Sorry for just one more thing to remind you.

Kristen, I was going to tell you exactly what Jo said... that would be a With all of my pregnancies, I experienced HANDFULS of hair coming out when the hormones normalized after the delivery (about 4-6 weeks after the baby was born). I experienced the same thing (but not nearly as much) after my m/c this fall. And, it took a few weeks to stop. Had I not read about it prior to it happening, I would have freaked out! If it's worrying you, give your doc a call. That's always the best way to make sure nothing's up... KUP

I agree with this! Happened both times. It's gross!! But just in case, I would talk to your dr about the RDA of the vitamins you are taking GL, Hun!

Prenatals normally make your hair and nails stronger. I agree with the other ladies that it is probably your hormones regulating. It is always a good idea to talk to your dr for your sanity and documentation for later. Good luck hun.
