My dog gave birth to 4 beautiful puppies at some point overnight. Sadly we lost three of them to the cold. We didn't realize she was pregnant (She just looked like she was eating well.....not like she was about to have a litter) and it was just too cold outside for them to stay warm overnight. Momma sleeps in the garage in an old recliner, but it looks like she was pushing them into the back of the chair trying to keep them warm and they were falling through to the floor. She couldn't get to them and even though they all cuddled together, the cold was still too much.

We were able to save one of them though. Now baby and momma are living in my pantry/laundry room until baby is weaned. After that momma will have to go back outside because she just can't be house trained. She had been an outside dog for years and just too old to learn (we thought she was too old for pups too!).

Here is Lady (momma)

And here is baby Nuevo (we decided it was appropriate considering the birth date)

Nuevo is adorable. Congratulations on your new little arrival! It's so sad about the others, but, if you didn't even know that momma was having a litter, how would you know? I hope Lady and Nuevo continue to do well.

That was the bizarre thing. The kids play with her daily. I am out there checking on her at least every other day....normally daily when I take trash or recycling to the garage. She had put on a little weight, but she certainly didn't appear to be pregnant! And it's been like 5 or 6 years since her last litter so we really just thought she was too old to have more. We had talked about getting her spayed during the spring, but decided it was an unnecessary risk since she was older and hadn't had a litter in so long. She's definitely getting spayed this spring though. She's getting too old to be having any more litters.

We sure are glad to have the new little addition though! And there will definitely be more pics! Matt said maybe it's a sign. We just gave up on having a baby, now it's a new year and we start it of with new life in our house the very first day of the year. IDK.....maybe he's right. We still won't be actively trying, but a surprise BFP would definitely be welcome!

Yes, we are keeping the pup. And Momma just might become an inside dog too. She's been inside just about 24 hours and the stubborn, bull-headed dog who even pooped in her bed last time I tried to housebreak her hasn't had a single accident and scratches at the door of the room she is in when she needs to go out. It has really blown our minds! lol We've always wanted her inside but her refusal to be housebroken lands her back in the back yard before too long. Hopefully this time is different! Though let me tell you, three dogs and two cats in one house (especially as small as this one is) can get a bit crowded. I can't wait to get a bigger house!

Lady is about 7.....maybe 8. Not entirely sure. She was Matt's dog before I ever moved out here, but we kind of adopted each other right away. Matt says I stole his dog!

I think it is a sign too. My mom's first dog was never potty trained either, well, we tried, but it didn't get through her thick skull. I can't wait to see more pictures! What kind of dog is Lady? She is adorable! Congrats and it is a shame, but you never knew. I'm not going to lie to you, I wouldn't know the first thing about noticing a pregnant dog. Nuevo is adorable too!
