I have a question -- When I was at my first u/s when I was preggo and while the lady was looking and only saw the sac, she asked why he wanted me to come so early, so I go to tell her I've had a m/c before --- so she says " I wonder why he didn't put you on progesterone"? I told her he didn't know I was trying...Well, after this m/c happened, I asked him if he wantd to put me on that, he said no just prenatals and all natural things.

so -- do you think I should be on it? Would it even help? What exactly is it?

After my first miscarriage, my OB put me on progesterone as soon as he found out I was pregnant again. I took it daily until I was in the 2nd trimester and I did carry my son to term.

When I found out I was pregnant again in December, I called the doctors office, they ran a progesterone check, found it was low. So they again put me on progesterone. It didnt help though, because I ended up miscarrying at 8 weeks.

You cant start progesterone until you are sure you ovulated, because it will prevent you from ovulating. And the doctors usually wont prescribe it until they find out you are pregnant unless you are diagnosed with a luteal phase defect and need it in order to give the baby time to implant after you ovulate. Those with a luteal phase defect end up getting AF too soon after ovulation to even get a BFP (not enough time for implantation).

Some docs dont believe that progesterone supplementation will really help once you are pregnant. But I dont think it can hurt if they determine your progesterone level is low.

After 4 losses in a row my doc finally caved and gave it to me to take the second half of my cycle. But I am talking a month off because it was making me MISERABLE.

I'm starting progesterone in about 2 weeks. I've had 3 chemical pregnancies in a row so we're trying the prometrium along with blood thinning injections (but I only need those because of my APS diagnosis)

I am having my progesterone checked on Tuesday because of my two miscarriages. Not really at my Dr's recommendation, but I bugged him enough to want to know if it's low. They can measure you at 7dpo and see if yours is low, and if it is, like mentioned, they can put you on a supplement from ovulation until about 12 weeks, when the placenta takes over hormone production.

I don't want to steal the thread, but it would be useful to know a good level here too. If it's tested at 7dpo, what's the level I should be happy with? I think I've heard over 10, but over 12 would be more ideal?

Also like mentioned, some Dr's (like mine I think), don't necessarily think low progesterone levels cause the miscarriage. They believe the impending miscarriage is what makes the progesterone level low. But I haven't read anything bad about supplementing even if it's not completely necessary. The only thing that scares me about that is that just because it doesn't seem to cause problems supplementing, I always worry something might come out in the future that too high levels aren't good for whatever reason. But I do know plenty of women who have been on the progesterone supplement and had great pregnancies/healthy kids.
