Hi, my name is Kelsey (27) and DH and I just found out today (at 12 weeks 1 day) that our baby doesn't have a heartbeat. It will be a while before we ttc, but I was wondering if you all minded if I joined you on this forum now?? I also had a question that some of you might be able to help me with. The Dr scheduled me for a d&c tomorrow - what should I expect?? Does it hurt? What do they do?? I am so scared for tomorrow.

First, I am so sorry for your loss. And of course you are welcome here, even if you aren't TTC right now.

I had a D&C at 10 weeks, and it really went "well" for me. The procedure itself, I wasn't completely under anesthesia, but I was out of it and don't remember a thing. There was very minimal pain, and even minimal bleeding. I think the bleeding only lasted a few days after. I went back a couple weeks later and was all healed.

There are some D&C experiences in the subforum that you can read about as well. I hope it goes "well" for you too. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

Welcome Kelsey. I'm sorry you having to be in here, but at the same time I'm very glad b/c you are in the right spot. These girls are awesome and help you with EVERYTHING!

I'm Jae (26), DH is Brant (30), I had my D&C on December 30th. surgery was about 15 min, I went home about 30 minutes from waking up. They had given me some medicine before I left, plus while I was still feeling groggy I went home and slept for a long time. I did take a pill just to keep the pain away. The next I was feeling fine, had very light cramping (felt just like period cramps) and just rested, by the following day (2 days after) I started painting a room. I was taking it easy, but I didn't hurt at all. I bled for about a week, but it wasn't too heavy. And to-date I still haven't had my period, but they say 6-8 weeks (I'm week 7). My cousin had a D&C the same day and she got her period about 5 1/2 weeks after.

Don't be scared tomorrow. You will be ok and it's not painful. I bet the most painful is them putting that needle in your hand - I promise! I'm not sure what they do, I think they just 'scoop' it all out but you will have no scars.

I'm happy you are in here and I hope you find the comfort you need. I'll be thinking fo you tomorrow

I'm sooo sorry. We were supposed to be in a DDC together, not here together. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss and am here if you need anything. I had a natural miscarriage so I can't give any advice on the D&C but wanted to say good luck.

Thank you for the reassurance on the d&c - it will help me be able to relax a little more - and thanks for accepting me into the forum.

Thank you also on the reassurance about the d&c. I can tell already that this forum will be a great place to be.

Kelsey I'm so sorry for your loss You're definitely very welcome here...there's a great subforum in the Pregnancy Loss board (further down on the main JM menu) where you can read different d&c experiences if you want a lot of detail on what to expect.

I was really scared before my D&C as well (officially my first surgery) but it was pretty easy, and under general anesthesia - so basically you go to sleep and when you wake up it's over. Some doctor's do d&cs under local, where you'd be awake...so make sure you ask your OB how they'll perform it just so you know what to expect. Recovery's not too bad...just take it easy for a couple of days..my bleeding wasn't never really bad, but was heaviest in the first 2-3 days and then was not much more than spotting for another week.

Good luck tomorrow - KUP on how you're doing...we're all here for you if you need someone to lean on.

I'm sorry for your loss, but welcome here. Many of us stay around even when we've "Moved on" because everyone is so nice and supportive. "Good luck" with your D&C. I rather hope that your experience is as "good" as you can get so you can move on to TTC.

I'm sorry for your loss. The warmest welcome under the circumstances...

I had to have a D&C&E in Dec. I was not under general anesthesia. Therefore, my experience is probably not applicable, but even so.. it was relatively short and I was lucky to have my husband hold my hand during it. Afterward, I had very mild cramping for a few days, but no real pain. I bled very very heavily during the first two days and then lightly for two more weeks and more spotting here and there. Apparently I didn't loose much blood during the procedure, which is probably why I lost more after. But as long as you're not at the "pad an hour stage" then I've been told it's OK. The recovery really wasn't painful physically. Please call your doctor whenever you have concerns... I did, and it helped a lot. Everyone was/has been very nice and understanding. I just started AF, and it took 7 weeks. Each person probably has a different experience, but the bottom line is.. you WILL be OK!!! LOTS and LOTS of hugs!

Hi and welcome! I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you find the support that you need here. I know I did...

I hope the procedure goes well and you recover quickly. Many of us spent our "wait time" before TTC here. It's a good place to be. And the women are wonderful.

Please let us know how everything goes. I'll be thinking about you and you'll be in my prayers.
