Just wondered how long it takes for Hcg level to return to normal after miscarriage. I miscarried on 2-6-09, and my beta was around 7000 on 2-3-09.
I took a FRER test on 2-22-09 and it showed an extremely light shadowy line ( would have called it an evap, but not likely with FRER).
I took the new FRER digital one the next day and it was negative. So I am guessing my Hcg is low but not normal yet
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I’m sorry for your loss.
HCG tends to drop pretty quickly. If you have stopped bleeding you most likely are at <5. Only a blood test will tell you for sure.
Do you have another test scheduled?

My doctor said that no more blood work was necessary because I had an ultrasound one week after the miscarriage
(still bleeding at that time) that showed my uterus back to normal. I never even saw a doctor after the ultrasound.
I just called the office and the nurse read me the ultrasound report and said no follow up was needed. Is that normal procedure?

Sorry you're having to go through this...I hope you're doing OK. HCG goes down just like it goes up. When you are PG, your hcg doubles every 2-3 days. When your levels are dropping, they drop by half every two to three days. If you were at 7000 on 2/3, then on 2/6, assuming you were going down by half every three days, you would be 3500. By 2/9 you'd be at 1750, 2/12 - 875, 2/15 - app. 440, 2/18 - 220, 2/21 - 110, 2/24 - 55...etc....
Now, keeping in mind that you probably dropped at a slightly faster rate, you probably had just enough hcg in your urine a few days ago to show a line on a sensitive FRER. Now, the fact that you got a negative hpt says that your levels have probably dropped below the "detection level". They did the u/s to make sure that no fetal tissue remained and to make sure that everything was progressing appropriately. Pretty standard that no follow up is needed when a u/s shows "all clear"...

I hope this helps. The good news is that your cycle will start normalizing again soon! Although I am so sorry for your loss, I'm glad that everything progressed the way it should. Hopefully you can TTC soon and get your little miracle.
Take care.

Dinah,

I don't have any advice, since I'm still waiting for the first AF since I had a D&C on Feb 7. I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry for your loss *HUGS*

Welcome to the board, Dinah.

I'm very sorry for your loss!!! How far along were you?

The procedure with your doc seems normal to me. I didn't even have a follow-up appointment with my doctor because my hCG didn't increase the way he wanted, so he knew I would miscarry. Anyway, I hope you get AF soon so you can get back to TTC! M/C really sucks! It certainly sounds like your levels have dropped enough to say that the hCG is out of your system.

I hope you stick around!!

Thank you to everyone for some answers. I knew I was going to miscarry at 7 weeks when spotting started. I went to ER because
I was also feeling very sick (but turned out to be flu) and wanted to rule out ectopic. Well ulrasound showed small sack and no
fetal pole. So I knew then it was over, but I miscarried at 8 weeks. This was our first cycle TTC our second.
