Hi Everyone,

I just have a question to those ladies that had to have D&C's done. How long did it take for you to get your period after the procedure? And how long did it take for you to conceive again? I had a D&C done on Feb 19 and havent' gotten my period yet, the doctor said it could take up to a month though. We got pregnant right away last time, so now we're wondering what to do. My Dr. said once I get a normal period I'm good to start trying again...which I'm excited about but not sure if I should wait a full cycle or not? Advice??

I think it varies a lot as I have heard some people get it in a month and some longer.

My OB did not say I had to wait to TTC and we got pregnant before I even had AF, so I am hoping this pregnancy sticks!

I agree, I think it depends on your body. I had a D&C Dec 30th, never got my AF and found our we were PG on Feb. 23rd...I think my AF would have come that week, which was 8 weeks after. I heard anywhere from 6-8 weeks AF comes.

My cousin had a D&C the same day and she got hers 5 weeks after...

with TTC afterwards it happened the 1st time I 'kept' it in...so when you're ready go for it, maybe wait for 1st AF?

It took me 33 days to get AF. We'll be TTC again this month (first cycle after D&E).

Hi Taralyn...welcome to the board!

Most OBs give a range of 4-7 weeks as normal wait for AF to return after d&c...and they don't consider it a "problem" until you've gone more than 8-10 weeks. Mine took 47 days to return after my d&c.

If your OB cleared you to TTC again right after AF returns, should be fine to do so. There's a huge range of advice given by docs (everything from start immediately (no wait for AF even) to waiting 3-4 months). My OB advised 3 cycle wait...I waited 2 before starting again, and am now on 3rd cycle TTC.

I posted a reply here earlier but it didn't show up- I don't want you to think I was ignoring you!!!
I got AF about 3 1/2 wks after my D&C. Everyone is different, but it can be sooner or later- mine just happened to be right on time.

I didn't have a d&c, but my af showed almost when she should have (28-30 days after natural m/c). My midwife said to go ahead and start ttc. I think the wait (if longer than after first af) is for emotional, not biological, readiness. I think that if you are emotionally ready, than you can start asap. Just my personal opinion...I am not a doc, just an aspiring midwife
