I'm using OPKs which tells me when I'm having an LH surge, as I'm sure those of you using OPKs know. Last year when we got pregnant with Katrina, we had BMS on the night of my LH surge and were lucky enough for it to stick.
I know ovulation is generally about 2 days after the LH surge, so I guess my question is: when really is the most ideal time to try to conceive once I notice I'm having the surge? Should we try on the night of the LH surge or should we wait until the next night? I'm always worried if we wait too long that we're going to miss our window of opportunity and I'm worried that if we are trying the night of the LH surge that we're too soon. (and I do know it is best to TTC every 2nd night around the time of ovulation, but I just want the BMS to be timed perfectly).
Oh, and on a side note, last month when I tested for the LH surge, I had 2 days that the test line was as dark as the control line. I've never had that. Usually it's only one day that I'm having the LH surge and the next day the test line is back to being very faint.
Please excuse me if these are stupid questions. I just want to time everything perfectly.

Stephanie, I am no help to this situation. I am using OPK's also but we BD when we BD. I'm more or less using the OPK's just to try to figure out my cycles right now. IMO, I would BD every night for the few nights that you are O'ing. I wish I had an answer for you!!! I'm sorry!

You do ovulate 24-48 hours after the LH surge. You have a pretty big window though. Sperm can live up to 72 hours so even if you BD the first night of the surge you are still in the window. I would just BD until you can BD no more!

I think it's generally recommended to BD the night of the surge and for 2 nights after. I knew my cycles pretty well and would start BD'ing around cd6 and then go every other night until cd12 and then BD again cd13 and cd14 ( I usually O cd13)

Hopefully after a couple of months you'll start seeing a pattern, and you'll know when the surge should be about to happen. At that point it's recommended to start BDing at least every other day (most DHs wont' complain if it's every day though! ) then every day the day of and for a couple of days after the surge. Do you also chart or just use the OPKs?

And I only use OPKs, I don't chart.

ok, now I'm confused.
Yesterday when I tested with the OPK, the test line was clearly lighter than the control line, but it was much more evident than the day before. But when I tested today, there was basically NO test line (it was very, very faint). Wouldn't yesterday's indication of it getting darker mean that it should've gotten even darker today? And b/c my cycles are so screwy (grrrrrrrr) right now, I'm so confused when I'll be ovulating!?!?!
Is it possible that the line could've just been noticeable yesterday, but doesn't mean I was having my LH surge?

Lat month mine never got a true positive before they started to lighten up again. You could have had your surge several hours after you tested the first day, but before the second. What time of the day do you test? If you test in the morning and Oed in the late evening, it could have been pretty much gone by the time you tested again.

I usually test right when I get home from work at around 6pm, but yesterday I wasn't going to be home, so I tested at about 3pm before going out. Today I tested at about 4pm.
aggghhhh I'm going insane.

When I think I am o'ing I test 3x's a day. I have found that I could easily miss my surge if I waited 24 hrs between tests. I usually get a surge late at night and by the next night they are getting lighter again (but morning and afternoon were still positive). Maybe you could try testing more than once- it may give you a better idea of what your body is doing! And Dh and I just BD all the way through the surge and after- I am taking a more is better approach for now
