Hi,
I am actually pregnant right now but my progesterone is dropping again so I don't think it looks too good. I have had 2 miscarriages, 2 births and looks like another miscarriage now. I haven't felt very satisfied w/ the attention or lack of attention I am getting at my ob. I am a difficult patient because I am so scared that I will have another miscarriage, but I think that is only natural.
My husband and I are thinking of switching practices and am not sure what we should do an ob, midwife or specialist (and what kind). I basically need someone who knows about progesterone levels and can give me some reassurance.

I currently use a midwife, but I have had only one loss, so no reason to think it was anything other than unlucky chance right now. With having recurrent loss though, IO would definitely be getting your OB to refer you to a specialist. They can do additional testing an OB won't. Good luck!

I love my midwife because the attention is so much more personalized. She cried with me when I lost my son.

Well I've had an OB with 3 of my pregnancies, however when I got pregnant with #4 (which we lost) I decided that I was going with a midwife this time, because my OB appointments were always dissapointing. I wanted someone who would be more personal and actually care about me, not just think of me as a number. Figures that I would lose this baby just because I found a great midwife. Sniff! However if you are considered high risk a midwife might not be able to look after you. But I will def. go with a midwife when I get pregnant again.

I have an OB, that is also an infertility specialist. He is GREAT! With my m/c I had a D/E... as they put me under.. my ob held my hand and the last words I hear was him saying it will be ok.. you will be ok. For my follow up appt. he told me to go, start ttc... he will see me when I get my BFP.. and than held my hand again and said.. If I have to bring you in every week to see that heartbeat.. I will.
The moral of this story... there is good OB's, midwives and specialists.. out there... you have my story and ladies above!

I'm sorry you're going through this!!! I hope you're wrong about a 3rd miscarriage! I'm very sorry for your losses!!!
Please, stick around, no matter what!

I have seen a couple different OB/GYN in a single practice. I really hate going to the doctor. Maybe a midwife would be better for me.

Thanks ladies,
I am going to check into midwifes today and a large ob office at the hospital w/ a combination of ob and high risk. I do hope I am wrong, but if I am not I want to find out what's going on. Fortunately I get pregnant very easy, it's just keeping pregnant.
I'll give you all an update.

I don't have the option of a midwife yet in my state. They just won their lawsuit last year.
I am seeing an RE, I had two m/c's so my OB went ahead and referred me, also because of my age. He has been wonderful

I've just gone to an OB. I think the key is finding the right one. I went through 3 practices with my last pregnancy before I found the best group ever. And now we have moved from Virginia back to Missouri so I'm going to have to find another group. Good luck!! And I'm sorry for your losses. Hopefully your current bean will stick!

I see an OB. I love him and he's been through the last year with me so he understands my needs and has been very proactive in helping me.
Are you on progesterone supplements? I know there is no clear cut evidence that progesterone helps a pregnancy that will be lost but from what I've read and been told, it doesn't hurt either. I don't understand some docs mentality of not using it. If there is a chance it could help, do it!

I've been seeing an OB. He recently referred me to an RE because I've had 2 losses now, but my insurance wont cover anything after the 1st appt so I've decided to TTC with just the OB for now and start progesterone a day or 2 after ovulation to see how that goes. I am also going to see him next Wednesday to determine if there is anything else we can do. After my first loss my OB (a different one-that was 6 years ago) prescribed both progesterone and clomid which resulted in my DS!
I hope that this baby sticks! HUGS!!!

I see an OB and she also has me see a perinatologist. I literally shopped around. I would definitely do the same. I have literally walked out of an OB office when I just didn't feel she was for me. After my loss, I am willing to find the right people to help me. Just because you think you are losing this one, doesn't mean you can't find a doctor now. I'd recommend it because either way you might be able to either find a way to stop it, keep it from happening, or figure out why it is. And having multiple people taking care of you for all of the needs (getting pregnant, staying pregnant, delivering) isn't a problem if they are willing to work together!

I went to an OB during my pregnancy, because I was a newbie and didn't really know about any other options. Also, I don't think our insurance covers a midwife, so we wouldn't be able to afford it.
Thinking of you... *HUGS*

The OB I was seeing for years, called to tell me that my ultrasound last week at 5w3d should have shown a fetal pole since my hcg was so high, so this morning I had an ultrasound thinking that there would be no heartbeat and guess what?? It was 133 and measuring at a bit over 6weeks. So far so good, I am in shock.
thanks for all the posts I really appreciate it.
