Well I had a m/c at a little over 6 weeks. I started spotting and went to the ER where they only saw a sac that measured 5 weeks. A day later the bleeding got worse and I had a complete spontaneous m/c. I bled for about 5 days.
My doc said she recommends waiting two cycles. I've been reading a lot about m/c and so many couples are told they can start trying right away.
DH and I hadn't done anything while I was pregnant out of fear, so once the bleeding stopped we were eager to partake in those activities. Point of the story, we weren't exactly careful. If I were to get pregnant before having my first cycle am I doomed to have another m/c?

NOPE! both my sister and a cousin of mine have gotten pregnant the cycle after a m/c and both are carrying those babies today (sister is 8 months and cousin is 5 months). My doctor told me I had no reason to wait at all.

My OB said that the only reason to wait is to allow your uterus to return to normal size. He says that usually happens within the first week after a m/c though. You should be fine.

Thanks girls, two cycles really did seem like too long to wait, esp when my m/c was so quick and complication free. Last time I got my bfp on the second cycle trying, so I am hoping I get my sticky bean soon!

I was also told by my doc... not to wait if we didn't want to. I went in for my 2 week f/u and he told what was wrong with the m/c we had no more of a chance of it happening again than anyone else and he would see us when we get that BFP. He never even told us to wait for AF... I think we missed the O' that month, since we didn't bd (my dh had back surgery). But we are back at it!

I have yet to hear of an actual MEDICAL reason to wait, I think most of the time they want you to wait for emotional reasons. DH and I started trying out first cycle after my loss and got pregnant on the second cycle.

I was told to wait for AF and then start TTC. I think if you're ready, you should start.

It's really for emotional reasons and also so that they can date the pregnancy base on your LMP. Good luck ttc!!!

No your not. My Dr told me that there is NO scientific evidence that states waiting for AF to show is any more benefical than waiting for several cycles

I agree that there shouldn't be increased risk of a miscarriage because you didn't wait until after AF. Good luck!

MrsB -- I'm here to say right now No WAY! I didn't get my period after my m/c and I just saw a bean and HB yesterday -- so I know you won't be doomed. I think the Dr.'s HAVE to tell you to wait, but sometimes they are happy you didn't -- that's how it was w/my Dr. He said wait, then when he found out he said I'm glad you didn't wait -- so when you are ready -- start trying again!

Thanks for sharing your story Jae! Def makes me more hopeful. Here's hoping I get my bfp and sticky bean as quickly as you did!
