I read a post on here recently that mentioned that you should hold your pee and not drink anything for 4 hours prior to using an OPK.

Is that real? Do you have to do that to get a positive? I have had a head cold for the past couple of days. Since I can't breath out of my nose my mouth gets really dry, so I am always sipping water. I have not gotten a positive yet, but I haven't really expected to (I expect it between the 3rd and the 8th). I am just wondering if I will miss it because of all the fluids I am drinking... What do you think?

On the instructions in the kit (clear blue) I got it says to not drink too much water and to not pee for 4 hours before you take it so I guess it must be important.

I would think if you don't pee for at least 4 hours, the urine is building up and has time to absorb all the stuff it's suppose to. I think your ok to still be drinking, as long as you aren't chugging water just to make yourself pee.

It's kind of a catch 22, you need to keep hydrated to keep your cm good (I believe), but you need to cut down on drinking to get an accurate OPK.

LOL, that's funny! I suppose that's why they made pre-seed!

The reason you should hold your urine is to allow enough of the hormones to get concentrated so the test will pick up the appropriate amount. You can drink fluids, but too much can dilute your urine. It's not too bad, you just can't go to the bathroom and ten an hour later decide to test because there probably isn't enough urine (or concentrated hormones) to get an ACCURATE test. It can be confusing, but the reasons make sense when you know what they are. Hope this helps!!!
