So just when I thought I was coming out the other side of all of this....

Yesterday afternoon I had some severe cramping. Worst I've had through this whole process (and I started naturally miscarrying late last Saturday night) and I took 2 tylenol, turned on the heating pad and tried to sleep through it. I was fine for about an hour, then the cramping came back and I was miserable. Then, from the pain, I started to get nauseous. DH came home early from work, I came and laid in bed and was shivering...could NOT get warm. He piled on blankets and I managed to sleep for about 30 minutes. Woke up feeling better - not as crampy, not as nauseous but still shivering. DH came in to bring me some water and a kiss and pointed out that I was really warm. Took my temp - 100.6. Kicked off all the blankets but the sheet (still shivering) and waited about 30 minutes....101.6.

So then I called the midwife and she said I should probably come in, sounded like an infection from tissue that still hasn't passed. I'm okay with that - anything to finally start feeling better - start calling my dad, mil to let them know whats going on and getting ready to go to the ER (which involves snacks, puzzles, etc. at this point we like to be prepared). Then the midwife calls me back and says not to bother coming in...there are 10+ people just waiting for beds and who knows how long I'll be waiting. Coming in when I get up is fine as long as my temp doesn't get above 103. So I take ibuprofen, one last temp an hour later (102.4) and settle in for some sleep. Then I sleep till 3 am, take my temp (101.3)....go back to sleep, wake up at 9 with A COMPLETELY NORMAL TEMP.

I FEEL FINE. So I don't have to go to the ER...but what the heck is going on with my body?! Why can't this just be over already????

Thank you for listening to me vent.

I am glad you are feeling better...what a weird thing for you to go through. I used to be an ultrasound tech and I have scanned a lot of women who had retained products but I only thought that happened when someone had a D&C. I could be totally wrong about that though. Maybe it was just some fluke virus that you had. I am just glad you didn't have to go to the ER...that is such a pain! Hopefully your body is on the mending course and you will be able to try again soon.

I'm sorry but it sounds like hopefully things will start improving. Keep a close eye on things and call your midwife again if things don't keep improving.
Unfortunately, sometimes a D&C is still needed. I have had two. Hope you can relax today and take care of yourself.

I passed some gray tissue this morning, which explains the excessive cramping. I just thought a miscarriage started with that part, not ended with that part.

I'm feeling so much better this afternoon...no fever, not much pains. Thank goodness this whole thing seems to be getting over with.

I took cytotec to start my missed miscarriage on a Sunday and passed clots on Tuesday. Thinking the worst was over Tuesday I was happy to be done with it already, then that Friday I had severe cramping and lower back aches and was miserable. I took vicodin it got so bad. Then Saturday morning passed another huge clot. It is weird how it happens and then you think your done and days pass and your right back at it.
Hopefully that was the last of it, I havent had anything since and it has been a week now.
I know you prob just want this part over with already, that is how I felt.
Hope things get better.

Heather, I'm glad you are feeling better. It sounds like you weren't done passing everything yet. When I was given meds to start the m/c process the first day I had some cramping and passed some clots, but it wasn't bad. The nurse called the next morning and said that it sounded like I didn't really pass everything, so I had to repeat the procedure. of course stupid me put the pills up by my cervix just before I headed out the door to take the kids to a specialist appointment. We ended up waiting there for 2 hours and just before they called us in I started getting these horrible contractions...I mean I thought I was giving birth. Then I felt a gush of blood and almost passed out. But I didn't say anything just went to the appointment and then ran straight for the bathroom. I passed tons of stuff and then made my way home. I finally passed a huge piece of tissue, which I am sure was the baby. Felt much better after that. Ended having cramps again for a few days so had an u/s that showed a clot left behind. So I had to repeat the pills AGAIN!
So it sounds like there was stuff left over and your body naturally started getting rid of it. Hopefully all is out now and you can finally move on and start the healing process. Glad your temp is back down, so you don't have to go to the ER. I hate waiting! See if you can get an u/s to make sure that everything is out now, you don't want to have another infection.

During my miscarriage I had a fever 100 to 102 for 2 days. I went to an urgent care because I was really tired of going to the ER where they subject you to every test imaginable. The doctor thought I just had the flu, and did not seem worried. I think I actually picked up a virus from just being in the emergency room a few days before, because a few days later my husband got sick too. I am so sorry you have to go through this, and I am glad you are feeling better.

Thank you guys for all sharing your experiences...it makes me feel so much better to know that it isn't always all "textbook" like they make it seem. I feel silly each time I have to call the on-call midwife (because of course, nothing happens during office hours). I am feeling so much better as the day progresses.

The worst thing about having to call the paging service is whoever answers to take my info always asks "Are you pregnant?" so I have had to answer that question like 6 times in the last week. I know its part of the procedure but its like...gah...I don't need yet another reminder that no, I am not pregnant anymore!

Oh Hun I'm sorry!
There is nothing worse than having to repeat the same story over and over again. I went to the ER when I had that pain after the m/c and I had to tell 3 different nurses & the doctor my story over again and each time I broke down and cried like a baby. Each one would start off with: how far along are you??
