There's a big drop before AF, rght? I went from 98.4 yesterday to 97.7. I know AF is here, but just to clarify for my own curiosity...

If you are due for AF then sadly, that's probably the case... but as long as you are above your coverline the game isn't over. If you aren't expecting AF for a while then maybe an implantation dip?
My favourite personal theory... the one I used for a year and a half of TTC... Thermometer is broken.

Yes, generally before AF shows your temp will either drop back down close to pre-O temp, or at least start to drop. Some people it doesn't get all the way back down until they actually start AF. I always temped vaginally (it's more accurate) so I didn't temp during AF, but some women do, if they temp orally.

My temp always drops before AF actually shows, but is usually above the cover line still. It will continue to drop (for me at least) during AF.
