So when I got pregnant with the baby I lost I had the flu at about 5 weeks. I didn't take any meds, but i did take Echinacea. The baby stopped growing at 8 1/2 weeks.
I'm currently 4dpo and starting to feel like I'm coming down with something. DD was sick just a week ago and DH is sick right now, so it was only a matter of time for me to catch it. I'm just so worried right now that if I am pregnant and I have a fever etc. that something will happen to the baby again, just like last time. What if that was the cause of the m/c? What if me taking the Echinacea was the cause???
My immune system goes down to 0% as soon as I am pregnant. I'm just so worried right now and feel exhausted and dizzy, which could be EPS or the flu.

I know how you feel, I usually get sick when I am pregnant. When I lost Zachary I had just gotten over a horrible sinus infection that I had to take antibiotics for. I still wonder if that medication had something to do with losing him. I will never know, but I do wonder. I would play it safe and nottake anything until you ask the dr. I hope you feel better soon!!

I looked up Echinacea and the first couple pages I saw said not to take it in pregnancy.. I don't have time right now, I will see what I can pull up at work. They said thier has been limited studies done.. and the ones (very few) show the safety of it. But not enough info is available. I would if you could not take it.

Just like anything you will have people say yea its safe.. and then others who say no.. look at eggs, coffee, wine... One week they are good for you.. than the next they cause cancer..

Maybe just start increasing your immune by eating more vit C. Eat more fruits that have the natural healing properties to them. Good luck!

Here's a link to an older (2000) article on WebMD on a study indicating it was safe: Study Shows Echinacea Safe During Pregnancy

But I'm with Kary, generally safer to avoid meds unless absolutely necessary...and if you think you need to take it, maybe call your doctor to get latest advice on whether it's on the approved meds list....

HUGS hope you feel better - unless it's EPS...in which case can't wait for you to test!!

Thanks ladies. I wasn't going to take it this time around, just beating myself up over things that I maybe shouldn't have done in the past.

Don't beat yourself up, when I start doing that (oh god I drank two cokes, I forgot my prenatal, I was sick, I was lifting kids, etc) I think of all the women/teen moms who don't take care of themselves, don't know they're pg for a while, don't take vitamins, don't get to the doc regularly and they seem to have healthy babies. (I worked at a daycare where we had a program for teen moms and not one of those kids had anything wrong with them but the moms were little brats let me tell you). So it's like if we're doing pretty much everything right and obsessing over every little thing, chances are it's not a certain thing you did or didn't do for a couple days but there must've been something really wrong with the embryo/fetus to begin with. That's how I see it at least. I hope this didn't sound rude.

Hun I'm the same way you are. I think back alot to see if maybe I could have done something differently. But honestly when I talked to the Doctor about it she said there is nothing I could have done. When you m/c they can't prevent it.

I always wonder how drug addicts can carry to term.

I would err on the side of caution though and call your Dr. if you really need to take something.

No that didn't sound rude. I know what you mean and deep down inside I know that it wasn't really anything I did. You are right, some women don't take care of themselves and have healthy babies. I guess that what makes it so unfair for all of us.
