Hello to everyone,
I am new to this board. I was hoping I might join you as I've had a rough time since my miscarriage.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any correlation between low progesterone and missed miscarriages. And, is a changing luteal phase length is a sign of low progesterone.
Thank you for any thoughts any one might have. My husband and I have been back to TTC for 5 cycles and we really do not want to go through another miscarriage.

Hi. Welcome to the board. I'm sorry for your loss. As for progesterone and missed miscarriages...it depends on what dr. you ask. Some believe that low progesterone is the cause of a miscarriage and other's feel that it means you are already miscarrying. And the luteal phase question...I don't think a changing length is a problem unless it is shorter than 10 or 12 days. Hopefully other girls have more information. Good luck and I hope you get your BFP soon.

my dr. believes progesterone can be the cause. but it's not the only cause. i have lost two babies and i take progesterone after Oing now. I'm hoping that this will help me carry to term!! low progesterone is the cause of a short LP (10 or less days). after Oing, your body begins to produce more progesterone to support pregnancy. it also causes higher temps after Oing. If your body doesn't not conceive on that cycle, your progesterone will begin to drop, signaling to your body that conception didn't happen and it should shed the lining of the uterus (AF and temp dropping). if in your cycle, your progesterone is too low, your body still takes the signal that conception didn't take place and it begins the process of shedding the lining - but too early, too early for conception to take place. So that's why women with low progesterone take progesterone supplements from O to AF. hope that makes sense!!

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Low progesterone can definitely be an issue in pregnancy. Thankfullly there is an easy test and treatment for it. If you are concerned, ask your Dr. for a CD 21 bloodtest and also a thyroid test. A short LP is usually an indicator for low progesterone.
Please stick around. The ladies on this board have helped me through a lot since my loss.

Welcome, and I hope you've found some answers to your questions. The ladies here are great. I hope you stick around so that we can get to know you! Just as an FYI, after my m/c, my luteal phase went through two cycles where it was very short. My normal luteal phase had been 14 days. AFter my m/c it adjusted to about 12-13 days.
I agree with Kimberley. If you are concerned, ask your doc for the progesterone test. Getting the answers will help you as you TTC. Good luck and keep us posted!

My doctor has me on progesterone from 3dpo until 12 weeks. He seems to think it will help prevent miscarriage, though I never asked him much more than that.

I didn't expect so many warm welcomes. You ladies are wonderful. I just started taking B6 and I'm going to see if this helps to lengthen my cycle. I thought I had fairly normal cycles before my miscarriage but since then, and it's been over six months, my luteal phase still seems to change each month. Thank you all so much!

I am NOT an expert on charting, but, I looked at yours and your LP is changing monthly. It also looks a little short. Mine did that for 1-2 cycles after my m/c. Hopefully it lenghtens and normalizes soon. I imagine it's pretty frustrating :0 Have you talked to your doc. So many women go on progesterone supplements and they get the results that they need to have a much more regular cycle. KUP!

Your body seems to be doing quite the same as mine did after my losses. Not only is your LP changing and has been short the last 2 cycles, your follicular phase (the phase before you O) is changing and is a little on the long side.
For me, after a few months everything straightened out and got back to normal. If you think you could have a problem with low progesterone I would definitely ask your doctor about trying progesterone supplements from 3dpo every cycle you are trying.
