Ok, so I just had my 1st MC last week. I'm 37yrs old and no kids. With my MC and my age now, does that make me high risk? Will they watch me more closely the next time around? Will I have to wait the normal 8-10wks to get an US?

I am sorry for you loss. Welcome to the board.
Your age alone places you at the "advanced maternal age" And they will monitor to you more closely. As for m/c they usually say more than 3 with no living children... But the maybe with the combo of your age and 1 m/c they will follow you more closely.

Huge hugs hun! Welcome to the board. I'm sorry for you loss. I think it honestly depends on your doctors. My doctor now after my 2nd m/c is considering me high risk even though I'm only 22.

Welcome and I'm sorry for your loss. I also think it depends on your doctor. I had my first miscarriage recently and my doc said that the next time I get pregnant, she will monitor me from the beginning, checking my levels etc and giving me earlier ultrasounds.

Thanks ladies. I have a follow up with my Dr this tuesday. I'm going to discuss this with her. I'd rather be overly cautious.

Welcome aboard,

I'm truly sorry for your loss!!!!

I'm not too sure in regards to you being placed as high risk now. It could happen, but anyone can be placed as high risk. Not just because of age. I hope your doctor answers all questions for you on Tuesday!!!

Welcome and sorry for your loss! I am 36 and just had my first m/c. I do have 3 children already. My dr. didn't about with my 'advanced' age (even before the m/c), so I think it really depends on the doc and your medical history. I would think they might want to do some more testing. As far a an u/s, you could always ask for one sooner to ease your mind.

The whole age thing is so confusing to me and everyone has a different opinion. I am almost 33 and have been told all sorts of things. I was told that I am getting to old and that age 35 is pretty much the cutoff to concieve/ have healthy babies. I was told that even though I have one child the fact that I have had 2 miscarriages after that just shows what happens as women get too old. I have also been told by another dr. that I am young and that 40 is now the cutoff (which I dont really believe). It is all just so frustrating. I wish more than anything we had started TTC at 24.

i'm very sorry for your loss.

My m/c occured just after I turned 36 (also my first pregnancy), and when I called my OB to let them know I was pregnant again (i'll be 37 at time of delivery), they confirmed they would not be monitoring as a high risk pregnancy (first u/s was at 8wks, standard for this OB's office) absent a specific problem during the pregnancy. Assuming you have no other complications (other than age) you will likely get some additional monitoring in the 12-20wk stage simply due to your advanced age status. My OB sent me to a perinatologist for the NT screen, genetic counseling and I'll have one additional 20wk u/s with the perinatologist....assuming everything is normal, he'll then discharge me unless/until I have any other complications.

The irony about m/c loss when you're our age is that the OB's are actually less concerned about it than if we were younger because the m/c rates are slighly higher for our age group. I think if you've had multiple m/c then they might monitor you more closely in the early weeks - checking your levels, etc. to see if there's a hormonal or blood clotting issue that could be interfering with the pregnancy.

Good luck to you as you TTC again...do take some time to heal emotionally and physically, you'll find a ton of support on this board.

Sorry for your loss. I think the doctor is a big part of if they follow you closely or not. I hope they do what it takes to ease your mind through the next one. I now i will be a ball of nerves.
