So, I finally got my tests back from our second loss. I'm not sure how to feel about it. The chromosomal analysis was normal. DH and I are both normal, so we don't have compounding obvious chromosomal problems. However, I also had them test a bunch of other things. I'm carrying both the prothrombin AND the Factor V mutations (Clotting disorders). Great... a double whammy. I guess I'm glad that I got an answer back, but now I know it's not just bad luck and that my babies were most likely fine... it was me that was the problem. That was hard to hear. I know it's not really my fault, but I can't help feeling that way. Anyways, they referred me to a high risk OB and hopefully I'll get in for an appointment in the next month or two to talk about things before we ttc again. So there's an update... I know I'll be spending a lot of time doing my own research on these things this week - but if anyone else shares these things with me, feel free to give me your input! I'm sure I'll be put on baby aspirin, but I'm wondering if they do heprin too... I hope I get in with a Dr. soon!!!! I have so many questions!
Thanks in advance for your support everyone...

Kristin,
You aren't the problem! The blame is not on you or anyone else! You did everything right!
I'm glad you got some answers, and now things can be done to make sure everything goes perfectly with your next pregnancies!

I know how you feel Kristin... I was diagnosed with PCOS after my loss and found out that women with untreated PCOS have a 50-60% miscarriage rate. It is so, so hard to feel like you are "the problem", but we are all just doing the best we can. Remind yourself every day: you can't know until you know. I now feel like I am honoring my little angel's life by getting treatment and doing everything I can to prevent another loss.

Kristin, I'm glad you got some answers. Don't blame yourself, there is nothing that you could have done. At least knowing now you can prevent it from happening again.
Hope the next one is a sticky bean!!!!!

oh Kristin honey, you absolutely can not blame yourself! One of the worst things about the medical process with m/c is that we don't/can't just test people to see if there could be a problem to prevent it - they only start running the tests after something has gone wrong. There was no reason for you to suspect you had those mutations - and even if you'd asked to be tested, i doubt they would have agreed until there was a reason to think that you might have an issue. I'm terribly sorry that you had to experience two losses before getting your answer...try to focus on the positive that at least now you have identified the problem and can seek treatment to ensure your next pregnancy is a healthy one.
HUGE HUGS for you sweeetie!

Kristin please don't blame yourself. It isn't your fault - how could you have known?
I hope your OB gets you on the right path and you are back on the baby track again!

You want someone to be the reason this happened. HUGS gilr! Now you have somthing they can work with. Hope you get in to see the Doc. soon.. KUP!

I also have 2 blood clotting disorders, MTHFR and APS. I had a stillbirth and 3 miscarriages before being diagnosed and properly treated.
You are correct in that baby aspirin will probably be recommended. More than likely you will also be treated with Lovenox injections during your pregnancy. It is varied between docs on when they start treatment. Most recommend starting when a heartbeat is established, but for some of us, that is too late. My 3 miscarriages were all before 4 weeks. I started Lovenox at 3dpo the next cycle and am now almost 17 weeks pregnant.
You should also join this yahoo group. It's a FVL support group and you will get a lot of info from these ladies.

You are not to blame. You had no way of knowing there was anything wrong.
Glad you have some answers.

I am sorry sweetie. I know we never want to hear there is something "wrong", but I'm sure you are glad to get some answers. I do know that once the clotting disorders are treated during pregnancy, that you can go on to have a successful pregnancy. Many women have. I hope your doctor can give you some more answers. Good luck!

Sometimes the answers just raise more questions, but at least now you will be able to be more proactive and at least 'feel' like you are making progress. I am sure it was hard for you to hear the results. I wish the entire JM group could have been there to hold your hand and cry with you

Please do not blame yourself. This is not your fault. I dont have any experience myself with this disorder but I did talk to my Gyno's nurse after I miscarried and she told me that she had the Blood clotting disorder and had miscarried twice. When they found out what was wrong they sent her to a specialist and they gave her blood thinners. When she got pregnant she had to give herself a shot of bloodthinner every day for about three months I think she said and now she has a healthy boy.

At least with some answers you can hopefully go forward. I have had friends who never could carry and never found out why. I wish you all the best in TTC and none of this is your fault. Hugs!

Kristen, I haven't been around in a little bit so I just saw this. I'm so glad they found some answers. A friend of mine has the same thing and she is now 17 weeks pregnant. She takes lovenox shots in the belly everyday. I hope the dr. gets you on the meds you need and we see your BFP asap!
