Hello ladies, Sunday morning I had a m/c at 11 weeks 4 days and then I found out that my progesterone levels were low at 8 weeks. My nurse practitioner went on to tell me that the Ob/gyn did not believe there was enough evidence/research to show that progesterone supplements are linked with a decrease in m/c. I'm devastated and unsure of what to do, should I go to another doctor, have any of you heard of something like this before? I really need your help and appreciate any responses. I do not want to go through something like this again, Thank you ladies.

Im sorry for you loss, and welcome you here. So if I understand correctly, you were not aware of low prgesterone at 8wks? Were they monitoring your betas/progesterone from the beginning? If this is your first baby and you have never m/c before, most dr.'s will wright off low progesterone as a sign that the pregnancy is "doomed" from the beginning. But this is not the case for some women. In multiple losses, some women have low progesterone that have healthy babys with the supplement. But the dr. is right, there is still not enough evidence that the progesterone actually helps. They just give it in hopes that if it does help, you will benefit. Like my Dr. refers to it as the "chicken or the egg" which came first? They do not know if progesterone supplements actually saved the baby or was it just a good pregnancy from the beginning? Sorry you dont have the answers your looking for, but maybe now you can start some blood tests and get your answers. Biggest signal for low progesterone problems is a short luetal phase. You will need to know how long they are and get some blood work done. Im so sorry your loss.

I had my levels drawn at 8 weeks on a friday and was originally told that i would recieve a shot if it was low. When monday morning rolled around i assumed that since they never called me that my progesterone level was fine. Im just upset because i dont know why things changed and it seems to me that theres no reason not to give supplements, Momof4lopez, thank you - I cant explain how much your response means to me, I hope to be like you one day

I am so sorry for your loss. While I have nothing to add about progesterone levels I do know what it's like to go through a loss and I completely understand your hesitation and want to prevent any problems from the beginning. I think that is smart of you. I hope you can speak to your doctor again and do something that works for you. Sadly, sometimes there is no reason why we have a loss.
Hugs and I hope you stick around here, there are a lot of amazing women here.

Hi Hun. I'm sorry for your loss. I've heard such controversial stuff about that too that from what I understand, Dr's do just prescribe it sometimes "just in case" it helps. I have no idea who's right. Regardless, I think you should talk to your Dr. again. It's important you feel comfortable and have a plan of action for next time so that if you don't like what this Dr has to say - you look for a new one.
Good luck to you!

So sorry for your loss!!! Personally I think that if they were monitoring your levles than they should have done something about it. But like Lori said, not sure if the progesterone supplements would have helped, but they can't hurt. Some dr.s give them just in case. I would def. look for another dr. , somebody who will be on the same page as you. Good luck ttc again!

So sorry for your loss. I would change doctors if you are uncomfortable with the one you have. You should trust your doctor imo. I am unfamiliar with the supplements question but is sounds like they were planning to do them just in case and then didn't. Maybe I miss understood the postings.

I'm soooo sorry that you have to go thru this. I think that you should change doctors regardless of what the doctor did or did not do. It sounds like you aren't comfortable with the doctor and you need to be able to go to them with questions.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
A friend of mine had 3 losses. It wasn't until after her 3rd loss that they checked her progesterone. When she got pg again, she was put on supplements immediately. She has a gorgeous 9 year old boy now. She said that it was frustrating that it took 3 losses before they checked her levels and did something about it.
