It's been 10 days since my D&C. I decided to use an IC this morning to see if my hormones have gone back to zero. They haven't - two lines immediately showed up. If only they'd been so dark when I was actually testing to see if I was pregnant! So I'm just wondering, how long will it be, do you think, before I get a negative HPT? Does it even matter?

Thanks!

I didn't test again after my loss was confirmed. I wouldn't worry about testing again until after AF shows.

I don't really know. I guess it depends how high your levels were when you m/c?? Mine went back down almost immediately after miscarrying - but it also took my body a good 10-14 days to finish. I was only 5 weeks.

And I didn't have a D&C so that could make a difference, too.

I tested 2 weeks after my D&C to check my levels and got a negative result. I guess it depends how high your levels were to begin with.

I hope your body gets back to normal soon.

I didn't test after my first D&C, but I ovulated 5 weeks after. Since a body won't gear up to O until there's no more hcg left, then I'm guessing it took 2-3 weeks for my levels to go to 0.

After my second D&C, I did test 17 days after (2.5 weeks) and still got a faint positive. I guessed that by the end of the third week it would be negative and I think I ovulated a few weeks ago which would make that about right...I've heard it hits about 0 when you finally stop bleeding and spotting completely. I don't know how long is normal!

Good luck to you. hugs.

It depends on how high your levels were. With my first loss my levels were really high so it took a long time to go back to normal. Hugs.

My levels were over 100,000, but I had a d&c, and two weeks later, I tested and got a negative. I think natural v's d&c do make a difference. And yes, it does matter when they get to 0 when you have had a natural m/c. If they do not go down properly you could still have retained tissue. Just keep an eye on it and follow up with your dr.

When I had my m/c in Dec 08, I didn't have a D&C. For weeks afterwards I was spotting on & off until I eventually went to the Dr (GP), who in turn sent me for BHCG (blood test) & u/s. BHCG showed levels of 3600, which is inline with being 5 weeks pg. (I m/c at 5 wks) Between the time of the BHCG & u/s I had a period & u/s showed my uterus clear. I was told without full confirmation that it was possibly an ectopic pg or my body didn't m/c fully in Dec.
I would go to your GP & get your BHCG levels tested & request an u/s. If there is still 'product' then you won't O or be able to conceive.

i had a natural m/c at 12 weeks and it took my body 6 weeks to get a negative hpt. and it IS important you keep testing or getting blood work done, cause if your hpts don't go back to negative you could still have some retained tissue that will need to be removed. My dr. told me to buy dollar store tests and make sure the line was getting lighter. I tested every three days and had two blood draws to check the levels. G/L i hope it drops faster for you than it did for me.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I think it took me about 3 1/2 weeks to NOT get a positive pregnancy test after my 2nd loss. I think it is important to know that your levels are back to zero especially if you are going to TTC right away. We originally wanted to TTC right away. My body felt soooo wacky after my loss that I'm sure I would have thought I was pregnant again if I hadn't been watching my levels so closely. Also, you might have a little more bleeding when your levels get really low too.
