I have no idea what is going on with my body. I had a D&C on the 22nd of May and yesterday I started to get really bad AF pains and cramping which I was pretty happy about as it was only 32 days since my D&C (the only time I will be happy with AF showing up) and I was happy my cycles were getting back to normal straight away. The pains got worse last night and I was in so much pain (just like going through the m/c again). I am still in so much pain this morning I couldn't go to work, I am in bed and have taken the painkillers the Dr gave me after the D&C and they have eased the pain a little but only just.
After all this pain though I haven't had a drop of blood, not even spotting. I keep expecting to start bleeding any minute but I am not.
Has this happened to anyone else after a D&C before AF finally arrived? I know I am not pg and am not m/c again. I was expecting to have a painful AF after the D&C but I expected blood as well!
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Mel

hey mel,
Firstly i think you should ring your dr first thing.
My first af after my d & C i had about 5 days of cramping before i started to see any blood, and there was barely any bleeding anyway. It started and lasted not even 3 full days.
Im not sure if its the same as me, i always have insane cramping that is so painful im often sick from it but if its not normal it could be scar tissue etc causing lots of the pain.
Let me know how you are going today, pm if you want

Mel.. you need to go to your dr asap.
I by no means want to scare you but here is a story from someone else I know:
Basically after the last m/c (and curette), I got some scar tissue in my uterus which caused the inner walls to adhere to each other. Subsequently I had a lot of pain and cramping when my first period after my m/c occured but the blood was trapped in my uterus and couldn't get out. I've had surgery to correct that and hope it worked
now I really hope that it isn't the case for you but these things do happen and if it is the problem with you then you need to get it looked at asap!
big hugs Mel and Im so so sorry if this scares you or upsets you.. I just felt it was better to let you know that these things can sometimes happen - just in case. but im sure it isn't anything this serious *hugs*

I had some pretty intense pain a few weeks after my D&C but I eventually started bleeding a few hours later. It seemed like I was still passing tissue. This doesn't really sound like what you are going through...I might check with a Dr. Keep us posted!

Mel, as the others have said I would speak to your doctor ASAP.
I can't really help with my experience, but for what its worth when AF arrived 5 weeks after my D&C I didn't have any pain at all until about day 4 and it was so severe I had to have a few days off of work. As I said, I don't think this relates well to what you're going through, but I thought it might help a little to know of other experiences.
As I said, speak to your dr. You need to have infection, retained tissue or anything else that could be responsible for the pain ruled out. Take it easy hun and keep us posted.

Thanks everyone, the pain has eased now but it may just be the painkillers!
I have always had quite severe AF pain and I think that may be because of my endo. I have always been able to go to work though. Usually I have a few hours of pain before I start to bleed but it has been more than 24 hours now. My sweet DH got up at midnight to get me a hot water bottle which helped me fall asleep.
Funnily enough the nurse from my ob's office called me this morning to say she was going to chase up my blood test results as they still haven't arrived. I spoke to her about the pain and she was going to talk to my Dr and call me back. She said if the pain hasn't subsided and I haven't started bleeding by tomorrow then I need to go and see him.
I think if I had an infection or anything I would have a fever and be worse than I am. It really is just severe AF pain I think. But I will go to the Dr tomorrow if I haven't started bleeding. I have read quite a few other posts where ladies have said they have cramped and spotted for a few days before AF hit full force.
I just want to start bleeding as I am keen to get AF on the way and outta here so I can start TTC again! I will be pretty happy if AF arrives so soon after my D&C.
Thanks for all your comments, it really helps to hear other experiences. Bel, you didn't scare me although that is an awful story! The poor girl.
Hannah, I can't tell you how happy is makes me to see your ticker moving along so nicely!
Thanks again, I will keep you all posted.

Hi Mel,
I am glad you called your doctor. I went through the same exact thing you are. I was in so much cramping pain that was worse than after the D&C. It was terrible. I layed in bed and posted in here. I started getting worried and went to the doctor. Seems it was all normal in my case. They said sometimes it takes time for your body to go back to normal. I am almost on cycle 3 and I am still getting the cramping but it is getting easier. And I never had AF cramping before in my life.
I hope you get good news from your doctor and know you are not the only one that has felt this.

I was also in pain for the weeks/month following my d/c.... It took af 31 days to show.. and before she showed I started with horriable cramping/pain... that lasted for what seemed like days. I than went on for next three cycles.. being in more pain than not. This last cycle... (the one I am in) has been the best so far... I think I might be getting back to normal.. KUP

Thanks everyone. Well I started bleeding at about 3.30 this afternoon and I have never been so glad to see blood in 2 years of TTC!
I usually have pretty painful periods (caused by my endo) but this one has been like the m/c all over again. I haven't lost this much blood since my first loss which was a natural m/c. AF since then had been pretty short and light this month.
I am still in a fair bit of pain (more than after the D&C) but I can cope now I have started to bleed.
Apart from the pain I am pretty happy as I am on CD33 and my cycles vary from 31-35 days so I am on track for TTC this cycle! I was dreading having to wait 6-8 weeks for AF to return so I am happy.
Thanks again for all your advice, support and sharing of your experiences, it has really helped me get through a tough day!

Thanks everyone. She is kicking my butt this month but it is a step in the right direction. It is actually as painful and the bleeding is as heavy as it was with my natural m/c. I'd forgotten how awful it was, to top it off I got my bill for the D&C today I can't believe we have to pay money to go through so much devastation!

Sorry she is being so awful for you. Your insurance doesn't cover the D&C? That is terrible

No, my insurance covers most of it. I only have a bit to pay but it still sucks!
