Hi Ladies. I'm back. We lost our little bean on July 9, 2009, that's when I had my D&C. I was 9w5d on that day. That's the date that I'm using since little bean was taken from my body that day. I don't know exactly when he/she passed because on July 8th the u/s showed no HB.
For those that are new here, I have been TTC since May of 2008. We were NTNP in May '08 and became pregnant rather quickly with identical twin girls. I lost them at 23w2d on 11-9-08, I went into labor and was far too advanced for it to be stopped. My girls were too tiny to survive. We started trying again in March '09 and I got a BFP on May 20th. We lost this little bean on July 9, 2009. Now I'm really just waiting to TTC again.
Here's basically what happened:
Sunday July 5th, we had a wedding, I was feeling fine.
Monday July 6th, I had very very light pink spotting when I wiped, thought it was from having constipation and trying to have a BM.
Tuesday, July 7th, Very uneventful day, nothing happened.
Wednesday July 8th, I had red blood when I wiped. I went to the Dr. that morning and there was no HB.
Thursday July 9th, I had a D&C.
Being pregnant multiple times with nothing to show for it, just plain sucks. I'm so sorry all of us have to go through this. I wish our babies were with us. I don't know exactly when we will TTC again. We might try as soon as possible, or we might wait. I don't know. I'm just such a mess right now.
On to my questions:
1. After a D&C how long did "you" wait to TTC again? I know Dr.'s tell women different things. My Dr. told me to wait 2 cycles before TTC again but I'm just wondering if everyone has followed that advice.
2. For those with a loss after hearing the HB: Do you know why? My Dr. is sending the tissue out for lab work and I'm wondering what, if any, answers I might get.
3. For those with multiple losses: Do you know why? What steps were taken to prevent future losses? (are you on medication, special fertility treatment?)

Oh Stephanie, I a have been a little MIA lately for the different loss boards. I didn't know about your little bean. I am soooo sorry.
I know it helps to have others experiences so I will give you mine: (hope it helps)
1. We only waited one cycle but that is what dr said was okay. I don't think I was ready sooner than that but I am glad I didn't have to wait too long. I know other ladies here have had the same advice (2-3 cycles) and went for it after one. do what you think is best for your body.
2. With our second loss we saw and heard our little bean and lost him/her two weeks later. Our dr. sent tissue for tests but I was told it was unlikely that it would be able to tell us anything-- they were right, we didn't get any answers.
3. I have had two losses. However, between the two I had a healthy pg and had my dd. Since that, my doctor said that it was most likely very bad luck and nothing we could have done anything to prevent. Now that I am pg I am praying he is right.
I know you are a mess right now. Be proactive and make sure you get all the testing you want and need before you try again-- even if it is just for peace of mind it is worth it!!!
Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.

I am so sorry for your losses. Just a bit of our experiences...
1. We were told by our dr to wait at least 1 cycle before ttc...but we decided to go ahead and wait 2 (just to be on the safe side).
2. We have had 3 losses. I lost my first at 10w..after hearing healthy heartbeat twice. We never got answers as to why. Our last two losses (@ 8w & 6w) we never got heartbeat or answer as to why.
3. We have been to 3 doctors and its terrible but the "magic number" they claim is 3 m/c! None of them wanted to do any testing until I had atleast 3 m/c (horrible right?) I finally got some testing done and go in for most of the results on Thursday...have to wait 2 more weeks for Factor V Leiden Mutation and Protein S results. Once we get results we we go from there with treatment if needed. I am finally getting my referral from tricare to go to a high risk specialist..so hopefully we will get answers and a successful pregnancy this time!
...might not be what you are looking for, but I know it helps to hear others who are sharing your pain and frustrations.

Stephanie, I just wanted to say again that I'm so very sorry You and DH are in my T&P.
The doctor advised us to wait two cycles before TTC again. For different reasons, the wait ended up being much longer. My first two cycles were definitely not normal (first one 40 days long, pack of bcp in between, then second hardly 28 days), but I probably would have still tried after the first one.
We lost Autumn only a few days after hearing her heartbeat and what the tech called a 'perfect' ultrasound (everything measuring on target). There was no genetic testing done, but the pathology testing came back normal.

Stephanie.. sorry for your losses.. I am glad you are back....
For us my dr told us to go ahead and try right away.. We had the D/E on Feb 6th, and had my followup 2 weeks later and was given the all clear....
And that appt we found out our little girl had trisomny 22.. An extra 22 chromosome..
My first loss was a very early loss.. no testing done nor do I know what I would have had... But my Dr said I have no more chance to m/c again.. than anyone else...
I hope this helps you.. Good luck and welcome back again.... !

Thanks girls. Hearing your stories helps, sucks, but you know what I mean. I guess just being stuck right now w/ no answers is what's bothering me the most. I know I might not get any answers, but to at least know that there could be a reason is always helpful. Our Little bean wasn't measuring right. When I thought I was 7w3d, I had an u/s and LB was only measuring 6w. When I went for a dating u/s LB was measuring 8w3d when I thought I was 8w1d. Then a week later LB had passed away. It's just infuriating. The loss ratio after hearing the heartbeat is so low, but it seems to happen so often. I think the statistics are wrong.

oh Stephanie i'm so sorry you and your DH are definitely in my thoughts right now...
On the questions you posed:
1. After a D&C how long did "you" wait to TTC again? we waited about 3 months...2 cycles total. My OB told us to wait 3 months, and it approx worked out to that since it took a long time for AF to return after my d&c. When i asked my doctor why 3 months, she indicated she prefers to have women wait multiple cycles to allow the uterine lining to build up (and be shed) but there's been a lot of women here who didn't wait or waited only 1 cycle and had no issue...so i think it's more of a doctor preference than based on solid medical fact/issue
2. For those with a loss after hearing the HB: Do you know why? Our loss happened shortly after we saw the HB on the first u/s (at 8w4d)...we were warned that there could be something wrong b/c the HB was slower than the normal range for that stage of development...so we came back in same week to have a 2nd u/s, and they confirmed on that one that we had lost the HB, growth had stopped at 8w5d and signs of m/c had begun. We did have some testing done from the d&c...nothing conclusive came back...dr classed it as a likely chromosomal issue but when the genetic counselor looked at the results she said that none was identified (but that admittedly this was very basic testing, so it could have been a chromosomal issue). I think everyone would like to have a clear answer as to why they lost their baby...i hope your testing gives you that answer. HUGS

Hey Steph, I'm so sorry this happened again. I've gone through 2 myself.
1. After a D&C how long did "you" wait to TTC again? The Dr told us we could start trying after my first period, but I didn't get pregnant again until our 3rd month trying. 4 months after my D&E. The second pregnancy was lost at 5 weeks and was a natural miscarriage.
2. For those with a loss after hearing the HB: Do you know why? I have no idea why we lost our first baby at 17 weeks. They ran test on us and her and no answers. I hate not having answers.
3. For those with multiple losses: Do you know why? What steps were taken to prevent future losses? (are you on medication, special fertility treatment?) Since my 2nd loss I asked my new Dr for testing though she was hesitant since 3 is the magic number. WHATEVER. I was tested for blood clotting disorders but all of that came up normal. If I want further testing I need to be seen by a RE. I am trying to be positive about it though and hope it was just bad luck twice. God telling me, now was not the time. If I have a 3rd loss I will most definitly see/request a RE and find out what the heck is going on.

1. I was told to wait 2 good cycles to start again I didn't listen I am now coming up to my 6 months of ttc since my m/c.I know it will happen when my body is ready.
2. I was 12 weeks pregnant when there was no sign of a hb at my 12 weeks u/s they thought my little girl had assed at 8 weeks they sent her off for testing and I found out it was Turner syndrome (missing an x chromsone) I really hope you get an answer to help you.I hope this could help take care life is just cruel sometimes.

1. The doctor told me to wait one cycle. But when I started asking why she said just so we would have a date to go off of. So I preceded to try again right away after both of my m/c
2.With my son we were farther along and heard the h/b. They sent him away for testing and came back and said he was a perfectly healthy normal baby boy and that ripped my heart out.
3. They will not do recurrent testing until I have had 3 m/c

Stephanie -
I'm so sorry to see you back here. Hugs hun. I'll answer the questions, too. Hope you get some answers and a BFP soon.
1. After a D&C how long did "you" wait to TTC again? I know Dr.'s tell women different things. My Dr. told me to wait 2 cycles before TTC again but I'm just wondering if everyone has followed that advice.
We were told after the first one to wait 1 cycle, preferably two. I waited one, got pregnant on two, and lost that baby too. May be no correlation there whatsoever. Who knows. I'm now on my second cycle after my second loss again, but my body is obviously messed up and I think I'm unable to try again anytime soon.
2. For those with a loss after hearing the HB: Do you know why? My Dr. is sending the tissue out for lab work and I'm wondering what, if any, answers I might get.
We didn't hear a heartbeat with the first one, but growth was measured at 9 weeks, so it must have had one. We didn't have an answer for that loss.
3. For those with multiple losses: Do you know why? What steps were taken to prevent future losses? (are you on medication, special fertility treatment?)
No idea. We know the second loss was not chromosomal. I've had our chromosomes tested, and I had my uterus checked out for fibroids/septums/etc. I also had a blood clotting panel done. That turned up some genetic factors that put me at higher risk, but they don't want to do anything about it. I'm on baby aspirin, but it's basically a placebo. There's no scientific research that supports that it does anything helpful, just that it doesn't do anything harmful either.
Good luck to you hun.. I hope they are able to find some answers for you!

Stephanie,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I had the same thing happen with my 1st pregnancy. We saw the heartbeat and was told everything was perfect and a week later I started bleeding and lost the baby. They sent everything from my d and c to pathology, no genetic testing was done but the pathology came back normal. I searched the internet over and over trying to find answers. The dr. told us that it "just happens." We never found an answer. We were also told to wait 3 cycles. We waited 2 and I went on to have Wyatt, who is a very happy and healthy 10 month old. A friend of mine had the same exact thing happened and her next pregnancy was also successful.
I hope you heal physically quickly. And can start TTC asap! My thoughs and prayers are with you and your husband.

Steph I hate to have to welcome you back here but it is good to see you back on the TTC boards!
1. After a D&C how long did "you" wait to TTC again? After my first m/c the doctor told me we only had to wait as long as I was bleeding. With this last m/c we did the same thing. Only as long as the bleeding... BUT both mine were natural m/c.
2. For those with a loss after hearing the HB: Do you know why? We had a heart beat with the first one but the ultrasound showed a large bleed. It could have been nothing and we could have gone on to a healthy child but as it turns out the bleed was in a bad location and resulted in an m/c. no other testing was done. With this last one it was too early for much... no heartbeat, no testing, no ultrasound.
3. For those with multiple losses: Do you know why? What steps were taken to prevent future losses? (are you on medication, special fertility treatment?) So far no idea. I am not going to do any testing right away. In the next few weeks when my doctor is back from holidays I am going to talk to her and see what she has to say but I imagine it will be nothing more than that we will do early testing when i am pg again.
Welcome back and I hope your stay is short!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with some of the other ladies the heartbeat statistic must be wrong. Everyone always says if you get the heartbeat after 12 weeks you are "in the clear" and the chance of loss is negligible. We lost ours at about 13 weeks just after hearing the heartbeat. We did not find out until 15 plus. We were told to wait three cycles and we are glad we did. We will not actually be TTC until September because of a polyp they found a couple weeks ago.
They did test the baby but found no defects, but I think it was just a general pathology report nothing genetic. I have two children already so I was told it was just one of those things.
I have not had any extra testing done.
I hope that you get some answers back that will help you. I know it was frustrating not knowing why it happened.
