Hello! I'm obviously new here and wanted to join you ladies. I've heard tons of great things about this forum and really looking forward to be a part of it.
Here's my story:
Started TTC May 09, BFP June 20th. Beta's done on June 23rd and my numbers were at a 1-2 week level rather than a 4 week level. So, of course I worried myself sick! Anywho, went on June 18th for my first ultrasound (should have been 8 weeks) but they saw a gestational sac with no contents and it was only measuring at 6 weeks. So I had more bloodwork done (which the hospital screwed up) and then went today for another ultrasound. Welp, doctor finally said it was a blighted ovum. She said sac measured 5w,4d (this was a different doctor's office btw) and still no contents. And I actually started spotting while I was in the office....I hadn't spotted ANY until today. So, she had me do more quants today and again on Wednesday just to make sure my levels are dropping. She discussed my options and I was really considering the medicine that causes you to miscarry (don't remember the name) but she's going to be out of town for two weeks and is worried that I may not pass everything by then, hemorrage (sp?) while she's gone, etc. Plus she said that the contracts are really painful. I could wait and miscarry naturally but since I should be 9 weeks and the sac is only measuring at 5 then that means that it's already been there a while. She doesn't want to leave it too much longer because of the risk of infection. Soooo...that pretty much leaves a d&c which I really didn't want to do but given the circumstances I think that's what I'll do.
But I feel really relieved to know what is going on and know that we can move on as soon as I get this taken care of. As you can imagine I was really emotional last week (after the first ultrasound) but I kinda of prepared myself for today. (Yeah, I'm pessimistic (sp?))
So anyway, I'm really looking forward to joining you guys and reading your stories.
Here's to the future for all of us!!!!!

I'm sorry you had to come here.
I just wanted to tell you - the meds she mentioned (cytotec/misopropal) are what I used for my m/c. I was 8 weeks but the sac only measured 4/5 weeks. I was also given pain killers (tylenol 3, nothing hard core) and slept through most of the contractions and cramping.
I didn't want to do a D&C because of the risk of scarring to my uterus.
Is she the only one in her practice? Because if something happens with the meds, I'm sure someone else could step in too.

Waiting to miscarry naturally can a lot of times result in hemmoraging and you will still have to have a d&c. I have had 2 because my body would not expel naturally. I have NO scarring on my uterus and no one should scare you by saying that. I know girls who have had 3 and 4 d&c. The chance of scarring is so slim and actually occurs more from c-sections and vaginal child birth than it does from having a d&c. I went over this with 2 drs. and they both told me the same info. and even showed me statistics. Sorry for your loss.

I too am sorry for you loss but will welcome you here with open arms. It does suck and the waiting is the worst. I miscarried naturally both times but based on your situation you might be best to go with the D&C. You are right in that if you have not miscarried naturally by now that could be a long process, the medication might do it but if there is no one there for your care I would be concerned as well.
Take care of yourself! Take time to grieve and heal. We are all here for you and know what you are going through... you are not alone!

So sorry to hear about your loss... hearing about it just makes me remember those same feelings I had when I started feeling that something was wrong with my pregnancy. It's like your head tells you one thing but you really want to keep hope that all is still ok.
My experience with my m/c (natural) was actually really bad... my doctor had kinda given me hope that things might not be as bad as they were (saw him on a Friday) and ultrasound showed no baby, no sac or anything (had brown spotting and mild cramping at the time). He said I could have my dates wrong, etc... but he did tell me that if I started bleeding bright red over the weekend, then I would know that I was having a m/c. On Sunday (Father's Day), I had bright red blood. I felt no need to go to the hospital because I knew what was happening... the only thing I didn't expect was how much pain was involved. I ended up finding some prescription pain meds from a past surgery and took 2 of those... it helped ease the pain. I have had kids before, so I knew the contraction pain and it's a lot like that.
My advice is to follow your doctor's advice. A D & C is very common. If you opt for this, you might have to wait a cycle or 2 before TTC again. If you opt to go natural, you will have to continue to have your blood work drawn until your levels reach zero (mine were actually 200+ on that Friday before I m/c and took about a week and a half to reach zero). I don't know anything about the meds...
We are all here for you... unfortunately we have all got a m/c in common, but there are some really good people here that can help give you support and advice in this hard time...
Much prayers and thoughts.

Hello & welcome! I'm so sorry for your loss! (((((HUGS))))) I m/c naturally at 11 wks 3 days but the pain got to be more than I could handle so we went to the ER & I had a D&C to remove the rest of the tissue remaining (I m/c the baby at home). Anyway, if I had it all over to do again I would opt for the D&C right away b/c she's right depending on the person & probably a lot depends on how far along you are, the pain is awful!

Hi hun. Big hugs to you to welcome you to our group. I had D&C's done after both of my miscarriages. I was in a similar situation both times, where I had carried the baby around with me for 4-5 weeks without my body even beginning to notice or spot. The first time, I actually tried to miscarry naturally... but after 5 weeks went by, all I had were really bad contractions for four days without every passing tissue. So, I really needed to get it done. If you end up doing it, please ask whatever questions you need to. No matter what happens, we're here to give you support and help you through it. After you are emotionally and physically feeling better, we will be here to support you in ttc again! HUGS again!

All though I agree on the scarring part, which my dr. also said, the biggest concern is multiple d&c's over a lifetime. I have had 5 already, and his biggest concern is the placenta attaching inside the wall of uteris and not detaching durning child birth. My last DD was born and it took 3hrs to deliver the placenta. But again this only after multiple d&c's over a life time. He has put me as high risk now due to so many, and will have a full staff of surgical intervention upon my delivery next time, just in case.
With that being said, I did have a d&c for a blighted ovum about 10yrs ago, because my body started hemorging. I lost alot of blood, and ended up with an emergency one anyway. I was 13wks and the sac probably measured 7-8wks. Just would not detach properly and I ended up in the er with blood transfusions and d&c. I pray your experience is not a painful one physically and you start the road to recovery right away. Im so sorry for your loss and the dreams that went with your baby.

yes, she is the only one. she said that a lot of the time most people have to have two doeses to pass everything and since she wouldn't be there that it was something to consider. plus, she did warn me that the contractions were pretty bad and there was a chance of hemorraging (sp?) but i guess that's possible with any option.
and, i mean, you do hear of a lot of people having d&cs done. it's pretty common so i don't feel so bad about that part of it.
she told me today that there was no need to wait to ttc; so when we feel ready we'll start again.
but thanks for coming over to share your story again!

I am very sorry for your loss. I also believe that I had a blighted ovum. I began spotting around 6 weeks and went to the ER where an ultrasound showed an empty sack measuring 5 weeks. In the next few days, I passed everything naturally. I hope that you find comfort here and get your sticky bean very, very soon!
