My friend has a balanced translocation. I'm not a human geneticist, but for my friend, it means that 50% of her eggs will have a lethal genetic combination and result in miscarriage. Her mother had the same defect and had 8 pregnancies (4 losses). It depends on the chromosomal defect that you carry, so it may be different for you.
My friend has two healthy children, and at least one of them shares the same chromosome profile as she has. You're right, it won't affect you at all. You may benefit from IVF that selects embryos without this defect. Still, there is still PLENTY of hope and ability for you to have healthy children without this assistance. Have you spoken to a genetic counselor yet? They might be able to clarify this all for you.
Good luck hun!
