I have been reading alot abotu progesterone and wondering if any of you take it? I have read it is very helpful in preventing miscarriage and has numerous other benefits. I am speaking of the natural progesterone not the synthetic kind. I have read there are no know risk to mother or baby just benefits.

Just wondering if anyone took or is taking it.

Thanks

I take the synthetic kind when I am pg until I hit the 13w mark. I naturally have low progesterone and short LP.

Thanks to this wonderful little pill I have 2 healthy children. The second I get a BFP my doctor calls me in an RX....low progesterone is what caused 2 or my 3 m/c.

The progesterone helps with implantation and substaining the baby until the placenta starts making the hormore between 10-13w.

This is exactly what progesterone is prescibed for. It has absolutely no benefit to someone who does not have a progesterone defect or lp defect. This supplement will not help a pregnancy that has other issues related to the baby/mother. I hope this helps, because sometimes women find out their beta HCG numbers along with the progesterone number and when the progesterone is low, they automatically think that this supplement will save the pregnancy, when in fact the progesterone could be low due to the baby not being chromosonly correct. Unless the dr. tests you during your normal cycle for this defect prior to pregnancy, its really hard to say which one it is.

That is very interesting. When I go back to the doctor I might ask her to check mine.

I have an appointment on the 26th to get mine checked. My new doctor said it is best to check at ovulation time during your normal cycle. I will keep you all updated what they find out.

Very interesting, yes I've heard the same things... Worked in a health and natural foods store with an extensive herbal & supplement variety. There's all sorts of stuff people take... Wild yam for the progesterone, maca root is good for male infertility, etc...

A couple of you mentioned that you are having your levels checked. I am curious...do you chart???

Charting can tell you a lot about your body! That is how I first learned something was wrong with me. After my 1st m/c I took my chart to my OB. That coupled with my very low progesterone during my 1st pregnancy is what helped convince him it was a LP defect....my LP was like 8-10 days...that is pretty short. Thank goodness I had a couple months worth of charts to show the pattern.

I know a lot of OB's will roll their eyes when you mention NFP or FAM or charting in general. But I would still encourage you to take your charts and share them with your healthcare provider. You never know maybe it could help!

My doctor told me yesterday when we get pregnant again it will be one of the many tests he will run for me to ensure everything is ok. He even explained that there are conflicting reports from experts as to if it prevents miscarriage. However if my levels are low he will have me take it to ward off evil spirits . I LOVE my dr.
