I've been using the OPK for this cycle, after having a M/C 2months ago. And it came out positive two weeks ago. I'm coming up on the time of the month, on thursday...so I took a hpk and its negative. my question is how much of a window is the OPK tests? that day? we dtd the day after its was positive. i wish i could understand this more...

Some of the packaging the opk's are in don't really explain it very well as to when you start testing, how frequent and when you'll O according to the OPK + LH surge is... with Kary!

I'm sorry for your loss but want to welcome you to the board.

to what Kary said. I just wanted to add that I've had a + OPK and ovulated the same day so I would say to make sure and BD the day of the + through the next 36-48 hours, just to be sure. And I start testing several days before my I think I'm going to O because I've O'd anywhere from cd12 to cd16 and I want to make sure I catch the surge. Good luck!

how do you know that you officially O'd if the opk just tells you it might happen 24-48hours in that time period? Someone told me that even with a + opk, that doesnt always mean you'll ovulate.
i'm going to start checking my temp in this next cycle. hopefully i'll understand that more than the opk.

An OPK just tells you that you are about to ovulate. Ovulation can only be confirmed through a spike in your temp. You have to take your BBT every day and chart your temps to track a thermal shift to confirm ovulation. I do both, but I definitely rely on the temps more than the OPKs. I use Fertility Friend charting, but there are lots of sites available. You can click on my siggy to see my chart and what FF looks like. If you sign up for FF, they send you tutorial emails to help you out with the charting. Hope that helps!
