Hi, I missed a call from my RE yesterday but he did leave a message for me. He said all our test results came back fine, besides the MTHFR mutation (which I already knew about) everything is totally normal. He wants us to try on our own for 4 months while taking the folic acid and BA and he is prescribing me oral progesterone to start taking the day of ovulation??? I wont have a chance to talk to the Dr. until Tues or Wed but was wondering if anyone knew why I would be taking progesterone or what it is supposed to do. Thanks for any input.

Me(33) DH(34) DS(3) 2 m/c 1 chem.

Dsmom, progesterone is used for low progesterone deffects. Some dr.'s will start prescribing it if you have had multiple m/c's. Progesterone supplements are shown to be the most effective in preventing m/c's due to low amounts by starting the supplements when you "o" all the way through week 12 of pregnancy. So maybe your progesterone was low on one of your blood tests. Good thing he found this now, it has been know to really help alot of women not miscarry if there is a defect in your levels. Good luck to you!

My RE puts most of his patients on progesterone because it can help luteal phase defects and can prevent miscarriages caused by low progesterone. My psychiatrist is very happy when I take progesterone because it has a calming effect on moods (just in women of course).
